Description of the walk

Park in the car park on the banks of the Yonne near the Stop sign and the weir. There is plenty of space for you.

(S/E) Head south, leaving the dam/weir behind you, and walk for about 200 metres.

(1) Between two houses, look for a perfectly maintained grass path on the left. Take it for a good climb! (There is a small house on the water used by fishermen at this point). Continue climbing using the path on your right until you reach a road.

(2) Turn left. At the next intersection, continue climbing to the left to reach the Col du Crémant. Continue to the intersection of the roads.

(3) Take the beautiful white path on the left across the road and continue straight ahead until you reach the second path on the right (wood on the left).

(4) Climb to the top of Le Gaudier.

(5) After the summit and the small copse on your right, take the path on the left that goes downhill. Continue straight ahead at the intersections and continue downhill until you reach an intersection.

(6) Turn onto the stone path on the left to descend towards Champs-sur-Yonne, cross the D362 with caution and continue to the end of the path.

(7) Take the track on the left and pass under the railway line. Go around a sports field and follow the road alongside the railway line. Pass under it.

(8) Immediately afterwards, turn onto the path on the left. Cross the D362 with caution and continue along the path that climbs opposite until you reach the second path on your right.

(9) Turn onto this path, then take the first path on your left and continue climbing.

(10) Once you have finished climbing, turn right onto a gravel path.

(11) Take the first grassy path on your right and descend towards Bailly. The view is magnificent, so make the most of it!

(12) At the woods, turn left, walk along the edge of the woods, then turn right immediately. Head south and walk past the church.

(13) After the church, take Rue de Champs on your right, then turn left once you reach the Yonne river. You can cross the small bridge and go to the island (just opposite the fork), before returning to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

There are several activities nearby:

  • The Bailly-Lapierre cellars, a former underground quarry converted into a cellar (warm clothing required).
  • The Chapelle Bailly - Georges Hosotte Art Gallery (the hike takes you past it).
  • The Marcilly mill (the hike takes you past it).
  • The Pierre Merlier Museum (on the other bank).
  • And above all, Douzein les Ânes (an association for donkeys that have been battered by life, who have found refuge in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux where the association pampers them, and you can too!).
