(S/E) From the lake, take the track that climbs up opposite the children's playground. The track climbs with a hairpin bend until it levels out. You will then come to a crossroads.
(1) Take the track on the left which goes around the hill called Montrouch (currently a sheepfold and formerly a castle which is said to have belonged to the Termes family). At the end of this detour, you will pass close to a greenhouse.
At the first three-way junction, turn left and continue for about 200 m.
(2) At the next fork, take the path on the right, which climbs quite steeply.
(3) At a left-hand bend, take the track in front of you (the yellow markings are sometimes difficult to see).
Here you begin a long climb through oak trees, Spanish junipers, Spanish broom, scorpion broom and other species of heath vegetation. You are now in the heart of this hike. The climb is quite strenuous but steady, leading to an intersection with the horse trail.
(4) At the intersection with the horse trail, turn left through the Serre de Barbaza. You will pass under the high-voltage power line and arrive at the Col de Ferréol, where the roads to Maisons, Tuchan and Félines Minervois intersect.
(5) At the pass, take theGR®36Aopposite and continue to follow this route until theGR® turns right (at the top of the ridge).
(6) Continue straight ahead on the track, which will take you to the Col de Couise.
(7) Then turn left and descend along the road (which is not very busy) until you reach the first track on your right, which leads to a pine forest.
(8). At thefirst hairpinbend , take the track on the right for a return trip to the region's mining past. After a few metres, you will find the entrance to a cross-cut tunnel (closed by a gate). Continue along the path until you reach a transformer, then take the path behind it to the stream to arrive at the entrance to the La Canal Mine, a remnant of the Corbières' industrial and mining past.
(9) Return by the same route to the bend, turn right onto the track that descends into the pine forest, where the remains of mining buildings are scattered throughout this beautiful forest.
Continue along this path until you reach the D123 road at a bend.
(10) Turn right and follow the asphalt road down to Maisons. At the bottom of the village, you will find the track that will take you to the lake, the starting point of your hike (S/E).
