From the village of Ancelle, reach the Roanne Haute car park at the end of the forest track.
Please note: the track is not very attractive, but minibuses do go up there.
(S/E) Head left towards Col de Combeau. After a few metres, turn right, heading north, and begin the climb, passing an old ruin that has been beautifully restored. Continue on and follow a few hairpin bends to reach a crossroads at a place called Serre du Milieu.
(1) Take the right-hand path and continue along the track. Cross the Torrent de Peyron Roux. Go around Peyron Roux. Continue and, after two series of hairpin bends, you will come to another crossroads, Peyron Roux.
(2) Turn right, cross another stream, the Jas Cerisiers.
Fork one of its tributaries and immediately afterwards you will come to another trail junction.
(3) Stay on the right-hand trail.
(4) Cross the Grande Lauze stream. Continue along the balcony path to reach the junction with the path leading to the Col de la Coupa.
(5) Leave this path on your left and continue straight ahead. Begin a short descent and, after a few hairpin bends, you will reach the junction leading to the sources of the Rouanne.
(6) Ignore this path on the right and take the path on the left leading to the Col de la Pourrachière. At the next junction, turn right and walk around the Rocher de la Chabane to reach the Col de la Pourrachière.
(7) Begin the descent, first via a few hairpin bends and then through the forest. You will reach a crossroads at a hairpin bend.
(8) Take the path on the right, follow the Torrent du Courou before crossing it. Continue through the woods and then La Roanne. Cross it to return to the Roanne Haute car park (S/E).
