Head to the La Roche-sur-Yon Tourist Office on Place Napoléon.
(S/E) Walk around Place Napoléon, noting the many trees marked by plaques on the ground. Continue along the route to reach Place des Halles. Cross it to reach Rue du Passage and the Jardin des Compagnonsto see the cork oak and a very large camellia.
(1) Leave the garden and head down Rue Guine, then down Rue du Roc. At the end of the street, in a garden on the left, admire a gigantic variegated privet.
(2) Take Rue du33e Régiment d'Infanterie on the left. At the roundabout, continue along Rue Delille to reach the Jardin François Mitterrand.
(3) Enter the garden on the right, walk around it, then continue into Square Bayard. In these two parks you can see:
- Virginia tulip trees,
- Atlas and Himalayan cedars,
- silver lime trees.
Return to Rue Delille and continue to the giant sequoia.
(4) Turn around and turn left into Rue Pierre Bérégovoy. After Esplanade Mazurelle, go through the small garden on the left. Continue left along Rue La Fayette to reach Place de la Vendée. Here you can see the umbrella pines, American honey locusts and catalpas.
(5) Continue left along Boulevard Aristide Briand. Then turn left onto Rue Lucien Genuer to admire the top of a giant sequoia on the right. Turn back, cross the boulevard and walk up Rue de Verdun; the top of another giant sequoia is visible on the right next to the Espace d’Art Contemporain. Walk under the magnolias of the Théâtre à l’Italienne to reach the forecourt of the Town Hall. The forecourt features a Judas tree, a chestnut tree and a purple beech. You will then reach Place Napoléon and the tourist office (S/E).
