Description of the walk

Park at the Rochecorbon Tourist Office on the D952.

Please note: this route is not signposted.

(S/E) Leave the car park via the west exit and take the lane opposite. At the intersection, turn left onto the road for a short distance, then right onto a path that climbs towards a lodge and turns into a lane. Come out onto a road and follow it to the left.

(1) Take the path on the right. This is the starting point of our circular route. Further on, ignore a path on the right and continue to a road, which you follow to the right. Pass the housing estate and, at the end, ignore paths on the left and right and continue for a few metres.

(2) Turn right, keeping as close as possible to the vineyard. Turn left and continue along the vineyard until you reach a path that descends into the undergrowth on the right. Follow this path, which leads to a road.

(3) Turn left and then go up the first street on the right. At the end of this street, continue straight ahead along the path (signposted 'retour parking') which leads to another road. Turn left and continue straight ahead.

(4) At the crossroads, take the path opposite and continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths that branch off to the left and right, until you reach another road.

(5) Turn right, follow the bend in the street to the left, turn right at the T-junction, Rue du Calvaire, then turn right again at the next junction and continue straight ahead.

(6) Turn left and continue straight ahead, passing a street on your right. Immediately after, at the intersection, turn slightly left.

(7) Cross the ditch over a small bridge, turn right immediately and follow the path along the Bédoire stream.

(8) Cross the stream, turn right and continue along it. Further on, ignore the road on the right that crosses the stream and continue.

(9) At the road, turn right until you reach the roundabout, then take the first street on the left. Continue straight ahead, cross the hamlet and continue for about 600 metres.

(10) Take the path on the right that leads to a wasteland. Go around it on the left and you will come to a path. Take it on the right and then immediately take another one on the left. Leave a path on the left and continue straight ahead to the next intersection.

(11) Turn left, cross a road and continue straight ahead to find another road. At the next intersection, turn right to descend the entire Vallée Coquette.

(12) At the roundabout, turn right, leaving a road on your right and then another on your left, and follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®®3.

(13) At the crossroads, turn left after the houses, continuing to follow theGR®® which veers further to the right. Continue straight ahead until you reach the road, which you follow by turning right.

(14) At the intersection, turn left and follow this street, which then veers left to descend towards La Bédoire, still on the GR®®.

(15) When you reach the street that runs alongside the stream, turn left and continue straight ahead to the quays. Cross the road (D952) and continue slightly to the left to reach the Loire.

(16) Turn right to follow the Loire as closely as possible, still on theGR®®3. Pass behind the car park (where you can end your route). Continue along the banks of the Loire, pass behind an amusement park, then leave theGR®® to turn right and join the D952.

(17) Cross the D952 (take care), go straight up and pass the Romanesque chapel on your left.

(18) Turn onto the path that climbs to the right, walk alongside the vineyard and turn left. Continue straight ahead on the road until you reach the starting point of the circular route.

(1) Return to the car park (S/E) by retracing your steps.

Notes

That Sunday, there was the sound of motocross bikes on the other side of the Loire. You could hear them clearly along the banks of the Loire, but also along much of the trail, higher up. It gets annoying after a while. If you walk this trail, let us know if this noise pollution is a recurring problem.
There are few people on this trail except on the banks of the Loire, which can be quite busy on Sundays.

We did this walk at the beginning of September. It was quite warm but the sun was veiled, so the lack of shade through the vineyards wasn't a problem. We really liked the "history in the street" signs placed along the walk. It's a varied route and we recommend it.

A hike that allows you to discover beautiful places. My only minor complaint is that there are too few places to stop and have a picnic!

Five years after the first review, the comments made are still relevant: the route needs to be corrected around point 5. Gate closed and private property sign.
We also used the GPS route, which is safer in the vineyards.
Pleasant hike, varied landscapes. Be careful, there is little shade and we got very hot. No benches or tables before the Loire. Frequent but short sections on tarmac, a few climbs, easily manageable.
It took us 3 hours to reach point 16, without rushing but without stopping.

A walk taken on a beautiful spring day. We really enjoyed the variety of landscapes we passed through.
The appeal lies in the alternation between passages through the troglodyte alleys of Rochecorbon and Vouvray, crossings of vineyards and a pleasant walk along the Bédoire stream.
The route description is accurate, but I mainly followed the GPS track, as the paths change frequently, especially across the hillsides. There are a few nice little climbs.
Be careful at point 5, as one of the small roads on the right was closed by a padlocked gate (it was Sunday). We had to make a small detour via the next street.
Between points 12 and 13, you can take a short detour of a few hundred metres, just before the Château de Sens. Take a small lane heading south (following the GR3) which offers a superb view of the Loire Valley.
