To get to the starting point in Saint-Savournin, at the roundabout at the entrance to the old village (coming from Mimet), turn right onto Rue du Cimetière for 75 metres, then left to park in the car park of the community hall.
(S/E) The trailhead is at the end of a row of garages. Head south along Chemin du Cimetière, then follow the path as it continues.
(1) After a short climb (150 metres), turn left onto a path that leads to a calvary, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the village and beyond. Please note: there are several paths.
Then take the path that climbs above the calvary to pass by Castellas, the ruins of an ancient castle. At a crossroads above Castellas, turn onto the path that climbs left up the hill.
Reach the ridge to enjoy a beautiful view of Marseille on one side and the Arc Valley, Sainte-Victoire, Ventoux and even the Alps on the other.
(2) Follow the path that goes around the rocks on the right and, 100 metres further on, take the path on the right to climb up a cliff above the Grotte des Fées. Continue along the path that descends towards a small valley. You will come to a crossroads with several paths.
(3) Continue straight ahead on the yellow and blue marked trail that climbs for about 350 metres. Leave it to take a trail that branches off to the right to climb up to a ridge, then follow it to the left. The trail then descends to the Figuière valley.
(4) Descend the valley, with rocky passages, for about 1.3km. Shortly after a small dam (watering hole for game), the trail turns into a carriage road. Continue descending for about 750m.
(5) Leave the Figuière valley and take the path that climbs gently into another valley on the right. After 500m, you will reach a climbing site: Le Baou de l'Aigle.
(6) Opposite, take the Baou de l'Aigle valley via the path on the right, which climbs above the cliff face of the climbing site.
(7) At the next junction, take the path that climbs to the left until you reach a track 1.8 km further on.
(8) Take the red-marked path that climbs up the hill opposite. This path is a little difficult. Pass a hunting cabin with a table and benches outside and a beautiful view of the bay of Marseille.
(9) Take this track on the left and follow it for 1.25 km.
(10) Leave the track and take a path on the right. This is the Mimet botanical trail with information panels about the plant species. At an elevation of 577 metres, you will find the marked path again at the edge of the houses.
(11) Take it on the right to return to the starting point after 1.5 km (S/E).
However, it's well worth it and we're determined to do it again.
