The Frenz circuit starting from Les Quatre Saisons in Kruth

Perched at an altitude of 800 metres above the village of Kruth in the Saint-Amarin valley, the small four-season resort of Le Frenz, with its old farmhouses and chalets, is a bucolic mountain haven of peace. A route takes you around the area, allowing you to admire the site from every angle, starting with the splendid panorama it offers of the Great Vosges Ridge.

Description of the walk

Park near the Auberge des Quatre Saisons, in the car park of the small Solmont ski lift.

(S/E) In front of the restaurant, turn right onto the road marked ‘Blue Ring’, which climbs up to a hairpin bend.

(1) Follow the bend towards a large car park above the ski lift’s arrival tower.

(2) Before the large car park, turn right onto the path that climbs towards the Felsachkopf, and make sure to stay on the Blue Ring, which marks the entire circular route.
Once past a final isolated house, the path leaves the pastures and enters the forest. Let the Blue Triangle trail branch off to the left into the Grand Ventron Nature Reserve.

(4) Then, ignore the Red Ring path on the left, which offers a longer loop around the Frenz area, and follow the path that begins to descend (Blue Ring).

(5) At the next crossroads, take the path on the right into the forest; this path climbs briefly before descending towards Le Frenz, where it joins the Red Ring path, which you should follow to the right.

(6) The Red Ring path enters the Frenz meadows again and joins a small road.

(7) Take the small road on the left, which serves a few houses, and stay on it until you reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

Worth a visit

The view over the Thur valley from the Frenz is magnificent.

Before (6), a forest track climbs to the right up to the small Frenz plateau. Dotted with tall spruce trees, this pasture has a touch of the Jura about it.
