The Villefargeau circuit

This walk is very easy and combines the landscapes of the Puisaye region with a short stretch along the banks of the Ru de Baulche. There are no major difficulties, apart from the short path at the end which takes you over a few bridges.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park in the centre of the village (bar and pizza machine.

(S/E) Walk back up and take the first street on the left (Rue de l’Église). Go round the town hall and the school and you’ll come to a crossroads.

(1) Turn right and continue straight on, including along the small path. At the end of this green path, carry on straight ahead following the Ru de Baulche

(2) At the next crossroads, turn left onto Rue du Moulin and continue to follow the stream. Stay on this street as it moves away from the stream.

(3) Continue right along Rue de l'Étang Jussier for about 300 m. At the next junction, turn left onto the road going uphill, continue straight on and go to the end.

(4) Continue straight on along the path as it continues through wooded areas and join the D955 on the right.

(5) Cross it carefully and continue along the path opposite which runs alongside a wood, until you reach a road.

(6) First turn left then right to cross it and continue along the edge of the woodland until you reach a pond and then a road.

(7) Turn right and follow the road to the end of the woodland edge

(8) Turn left onto the path leading into the woods, then take the first path on the right. Go through the gate and continue straight on for about 600 m.

(9) Take the path on the right and look out for Montmercy Castle in the background.

(10) In front of the château, take the road on the left between the trees known as Chemin des Vieux Prés and continue straight on until you reach some houses on a bend.

(11) Behind these houses, continuing along the road, you will find a small path leading downhill. Follow it and cross the bridges over the two branches of the Ru de Baulche.

(12) Turn right onto the path that opens out onto meadows and join the D965.

(13) Follow it to the right and take care, even though the verges are wide.

(14) After the bridge, turn left towards Château de Villefargeau. Go round it on the right and you’ll reach the fork from the outward journey.

(1) Follow the route back along the same path as on the way out to return to the car park in the centre of the village (S/E).
