The squirrel trail from Le Poizat-Lalleyriat

Start from the car park of the multi-purpose hall. Follow the orange signs marked with the number 1 and the yellow squirrels painted on the trees.

(S/E) With the town hall on your left, turn right onto the main road and continue to Rue la Ravarette.

(1) Go down this road, turning left. Keep left at the first three forks, passing under the village.

(2) At the fourth fork, continue right on the path that descends towards the mill.

(3) Coming up from the mill, at the fountain, continue along the road for 200 metres, following the bend until you find the path that goes up to the left. Take this path.

(4) At the crossroads in the forest, take the second right (a squirrel indicates the path).

(5) Go up the road on the left and take the path on the right that climbs into the forest. Follow the signs to the Belvédère du Peney, where there is a magnificent view of Lake Sylans.

(6) Go back 100 metres. Turn right, following the signs towards Belvédère de la Roche Carrelet. Pass the high-voltage power lines to reach a crossroads.

(7) Take the path that descends to the right and then immediately climbs back up.

(8) Continue straight ahead to reach the Belvédère de la Roche Carrelet, where you can enjoy a beautiful view all the way to Nantua. Then continue along the path.

(9) Take the white path on the left and follow it to the junction with La Charbonnière (tarmac road).

(10) Follow the road to the left until you reach a junction with a path in the meadow.

(11) Take the path on the right that leads into the meadow. If there are cows present, pass under the electric fence.

(12) At the end, join the Route des Granges. At the crossroads, take "Le Chemin des Vaches", indicated by a pretty painted sign, and follow the directional signs that lead to the forest in the distance.

(4) At the crossroads, take the path to the right, opposite to the one you took on the way there, until you reach the junction after the mill.

(2) At the top of the hill, take the path that climbs to the right to reach the village of Le Poizat. At the end, go up to the right. When you arrive in front of the La Fruitière lodge, head towards the church on the left to reach the car park (S/E).

At (S/E), you will find yourself right next to the 2J grocery store, where you can do some shopping, have a coffee or a refreshment.
