Description of the walk

Departure from the junction of Chemin de Tigou and Côte du Tigou, near the Ruchers du Tigou. Parking available at the side of the road.

Yellow Y markings on a black background on white wooden directional signs bearing the Giroussens town logo.

(S/E) Take the Côte du Tigou (an 11% incline that will quickly get your legs warmed up!), continue along the Chemin de la Tuilerie and then turn right at the end of it.

(1) At the end of Impasse de la Planette, take Route des Crêtes on the left, pass under the D631 bridge and follow this road to the end.

(2) Turn right (Rue Bernard Palissy), enter the village, pass the ceramics and pottery workshops, artists' galleries and exhibitions, and continue to Place de la Mairie.

(3) Enjoy the view (Dadou and Agout valleys, town of Lavaur, villages of Ambres and Saint-Lieux-les Lavaur, apple orchards). There are places to eat (grocery store, café, restaurant) and you can admire the Saint-Salvy Church as you pass by. Continue right onto Rue du Pont Saint-Salvi.

(4) Pass in front of the Centre Céramique Contemporaine and the Château de Belbèze. Continue on the D38 then turn left onto Route de la Forêt. Pass under the road bridge and continue straight ahead until you reach a crossroad.

(5) Continue along the track opposite, Chemin de la Forêt, ignore the hamlet of Sourdas on your right and enter the Forest of Giroussens. Continue straight ahead until you reach the fork after Riou Tort.

(6) Take the forest path on the right and continue to Barraque Haute.

(7) Cross the D38 and continue straight ahead to the Chapel of Saint-Pierre du Puy (chapel, old cemetery, playground, picnic area, panoramic view, orientation table).

(8) After ringing the bell, walk 150 m, cross the D87 carefully and head towards the hamlet of Les Galiniers.

(9) At the exit of the hamlet, at the town exit sign, take the stony path on the left, uphill through the vineyards. Pass close to the telecommunications pylon and descend on the other side to a fork near the Écuries de Cante-Merle stables.

(10) Continue straight ahead, then take the path on the right (covered forest lane) until you reach a road (Route des Galiniers).

(11) Cross it and take the path opposite, which descends through the undergrowth for about 2 km with a negative elevation of about 100 m. Pass the hamlet of Prat Pastat, continuing on the tarmac, and arrive at a crossroads.

(12) Take the grassy path opposite and continue straight ahead until you reach a track suitable for vehicles. First turn left then right and continue to the hamlet of Les Gélis. Take the road on the left and reach the first grassy path on the right.

(13) Take this path and follow it straight ahead. At La Selve, continue straight ahead, ignoring the houses on the left, and continue along the grassy path until you reach a road.

(14) Proceed cautiously for about 50 metres to the left, then turn right (Chemin des Jeannoutets). Continue along the track, and at Jeannoutets turn right. Pass the hamlet of Tire-Vire, then keep left at the end of Chemin de Tire-Vire.

(15) At Les Perrières, take Chemin de Manou on the right and continue straight ahead until you reach the junction of Chemin de Tigou and Côte du Tigou (S/E).

Beautiful route, easy to follow with GPS.
Beautiful views and interesting heritage: pretty houses, small chapels and a magnificent dovecote. The wash house is ideal for a picnic.
There could be a little less tarmac: the path that passes in front of Lacaze Castle joins the route without extending it.
