Park in the car park near the post office in the centre of Sauxillanges.
Yellow markings.
(S/E) Go down the street and pass between the fountain and the Cluniac cloister. Continue to the town hall.
(1) At the crossroads, turn left. Then take the small street to reach Quai des Coufferts and admire the sundial on the wall on the right and the half-timbered potter's house with its basalt stone window surrounds. Cross the leat on one of the two footbridges, then, in front of the half-timbered house, go straight on following the "Sentier de Claire" signs. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and continue towards the campsite and rugby stadium.
(2) Walk along the rugby field on your left, cross the footbridge over the leat and turn left. Continue along the pasture and then follow the path into the woods. After the woods, continue to the right on the main path. This will take you to the hamlet of Tourlioux.
(3) Continue straight ahead on the tarmac road, ignoring the road on the left towards Pranly.
(4) At the last house in Le Creux, turn left onto the grassy path. At the next intersection, turn right and climb the same path to the Château de Bois Rigaud. From there, continue straight ahead on the tarmac road.
(5) At the crossroads, cross over and take the grassy path. Continue to the village of Usson. Follow the "Papillon Jaune" (Yellow Butterfly) markings. Go to the church, where you can admire the 360° panorama at the foot of the Virgin Mary statue, or continue on to the basalt columns and walk around the ramparts.
(6) At the Porte de France, turn right and follow the yellow markings for the "Sentier de Claire" trail. At the well in La Nugère, turn left and continue along the path to the crossroads.
(7) Turn right and then immediately left to descend to Le Creux, which you passed on the way there.
(4) Return to Sauxillanges by retracing your steps, passing through Tourlioux, the forest, the rugby field, the Quai des Coufferts, the town hall and turn right towards the post office (S/E).

Wonderful hike, beautiful forest trail. The climb up to the village of Usson is quite steep, but well worth the effort when you reach the statue of the Virgin Mary and are rewarded with a superb 360° panoramic view. We are delighted with this beautiful route.
