(S/E) From the town centre, follow the D589 towards Le Puy-en-Velay for a few hundred metres.
(1) Leave this road and turn right onto theGR®®65to reach the hamlet of Pique-Meule.
(2) The path crosses the Rouchoux stream and then climbs steeply to join a perpendicular path. Turn right.
(3) Follow the sign for "Rocher Grand" to enjoy the panoramic view of Saint-Privat-d'Allier. Allow 20 minutes for the round trip. Return to theGR®®65and continue climbing to the right until you reach the village of Le Chier.
(4) At the fork, turn left and cross the central area.
(5) Just after the town hall (picnic table), turn right to leave the village. Pass a cross and then the Chier wash house. Cross the Chier stream. Continue south, ignoring several paths branching off to the left and right, and cross the Charnier stream.
pass the peatland cross made of basalt rock. Continue downhill on the road until you reach the D40. Opposite, on the other side of the road, is the village of Saint-Didier-d'Allier.
(7) Take the D40 on the right and continue along the road towards Saint-Privat-d'Allier for 2.2 km.
(8) After passing under a high-voltage power line, at a hairpin bend to the right, leave the tarmac and follow a path that climbs steeply inside the bend.
(4) Reach the junction with theGR®®65. Turn left, following the red and white markings of the Saint-Jacques trail, to reach the hamlet of Pique-Meule, which you already passed on the way there.
(2) Join the D589 and the first houses of Saint-Privat-d'Allier to return to the starting point (S/E).
