(S/E) The walk begins along the RN19. From Vesoul towards Lure, there is a car park on each side. From there, we follow the road along a small path protected by a railing before turning left. All that remains is to follow the path.
We climb a gentle slope, crossing pastures, pine forests and groves. To our right, Vesoul and some neighbouring towns, Frotey, Navenne and Quincey, spread out before us. We can see the Chapelle de la Motte, the towers and blocks of Montmarin and Les Rèpes, the railway line and a large part of the old town. In the background, behind La Motte, are the roofs of Peugeot.
Finally, after passing through a few gate barriers, we arrive at a hut explaining what Le Sabot and the nature reserve are all about. Towards the cliff, several paths between the bushes lead to the destination of this visit, the Sabot. Erosion has carved the rock into a characteristic shape, a huge ancient clog. Of course, there is a legend surrounding this natural sculpture. The clog is said to belong to the devil.
(1) The path along the cliffs is pleasant, but for our circular route we have to turn at the hut and head into the woods. We cross several clearings before coming to a country lane.
(2) We turn right until we reach the junction with the tarmac road that leads to the motocross track.
(3) At the road, turn right. Going down this road, we come back to the car park. A stop is a must to see the pig park and watch the sows and boars for a moment, to the delight of young and old alike. Return to the car park (S/E)
