Start at the large free car park at Spaloumont, near the upper part of the cemetery and the thermal baths.
(S/E) Facing the forest, go up Chemin de Frahinfaz on the right for about 100 metres until you reach a clearing on the left and turn into it. With your back to the bench, ignore the track on the right and turn left, then immediately right onto a little-used firebreak that descends and ends with a steep passage.
(1) At the bottom of the valley, turn right onto Chemin Fond Mignol, wade across the stream and follow the track uphill.
(2) At the junction with Chemin Princesse Clémentine, turn left and then quickly, at a bend, turn right to climb Ru du Petit Chawion for about 200 m.
(3) Take the path on the left that climbs up the side of the valley. Ignore the paths branching off to the right and left. At the top of the hill, continue straight ahead to descend into the next valley.
(4) At the junction with Promenade du Golf, turn left.
This section offers views of the protected marshlands of Grand Chawion below.
(5) At a large T-junction, turn right, cross the stream and then turn immediately right onto the path that climbs up the Ru du Grand Chawion. Ignore all the paths on the left.
(6) When the main path leaves the Ru to climb up to the left, look for a track on the right that crosses a small ford and follow this track as close as possible to the Ru. Towards the end of this wild section, a track (not shown on the map) allows you to cross a marshy area and join a trail.
(7) Take the track on the left, then immediately at a V-shaped fork, go up to the left.
(8) After about 200 metres, turn left onto a wide path and continue straight ahead at both crossroads.
(9) At thethird T-junction, continue to the right.
(10) At the junction with a firebreak, follow it to the left.
(11) This path crosses theGR®5, which you follow to the left and stay on.
(5) Back at this point, go up Chemin Princesse Clémentine and quickly leave it on the right to go down to Étang de Chawion. This is a good place to take a relaxing break. Cross the pond on the dyke, then turn left onto theGR® to Parking de Spaloumont (S/E).
