In Saint-Maurice, park in the small car park opposite the village war memorial, below the church on the Grand Place.
(S/E) Follow the blue markings until otherwise indicated. Take the street that heads north and immediately turns right. Pass between a fountain on the left and the church on the right, which overlooks the street. At the yellow directional signs, continue along Rue de Saint-Romain towards the Route de Saint-Romain. Cross the village with its beautiful winegrowers' houses. Note the beautiful enamelled lava plaques on some of them. Ignore Rue du Puy Redon on the right and, a hundred metres further on, take a path on the right.
(1) At a fork, continue along the path on the left. Further on, the wide path runs alongside pastures. You will come to a crossroads with a beautiful stone cross carved with a clover leaf. Continue straight ahead on the path to the left of the cross. Further on, pass through a cattle grid (a grid on the ground to prevent livestock from passing). Immediately after, turn onto a barely marked path on the left; the Visorando app is useful here. Follow this path, looking for the blue markings that are barely visible on the exposed rocks. You will come to a slightly better marked path (note a blue cross on the ground on your left).
(2) Turn right onto this path (to return, you will need to turn left). Further on, join a wider path and follow it to the left. After about a hundred metres, pay attention to spot the path on the right that climbs to the summit of Puy Saint-Romain. A beautiful view and a lovely enamelled lava orientation table await you there. Then turn back.
(2) Continue straight ahead on this grassy path, which offers beautiful views of the Sancy Massif and the Chaîne des Puys. The path makes a sharp left turn. Further on, join a path and follow it to the right. Ignore a path on the right. Shortly afterwards, the path turns left, then right. Leave it shortly afterwards to descend to the left onto a path that is not shown on the IGN map.
(3) You will come to a path; follow it to the right in the direction indicated by a small blue PR®® sign. Further on, ignore the entrance to a field on the right. You will arrive at the Carrefour de Chanserat, marked with yellow directional signs.
(4) Continue downhill to the left. About 100 metres after passing a small barn on the right-hand side of the path, at an intersection, leave the blue markings and turn right onto the path. At the next fork, continue to the left.
(5) About 150 metres further on, look out for a barely visible path on your left (quite overgrown but still usable in 2025) that descends steeply into the ravine. Take this path. Further on, the path veers to the right as it approaches the bottom of the ravine. Shortly afterwards, it widens into a broader trail. Continue below the pastures, along a tiny stream (in November). The path becomes wider and wider. Ignore two paths on the right a few metres apart. Further on, you will come to a fairly busy road, the D1.
(6) Cross it carefully and take the path opposite, between two wooden posts, to reach the former site of the Sainte-Marguerite Springs. Turn right onto the path towards the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel. Continue straight ahead to pass between the ruined buildings. Pass over the channelled spring (a tiny canal where the water leaves ochre-coloured ferrous carbonate silt). Continue straight ahead to the end of the buildings to reach the banks of the Allier. Turn left to return to the buildings, then leave the banks of the Allier to approach the hangar. Turn right onto the path and, on your left, you will find a spring, the Source du Tennis, which flows into an ochre basin that extends to your left. Head towards the "Sentier du Geyser" information panel at the edge of this basin, then continue south towards the strange rockery-like construction, which houses a beautiful gaseous spring, the Source de la Gloire. Pass to the right of the large house to reach an old glass and earthenware fountain. You will also notice, on your left, an old basin crossed by a "Buttes Chaumont"-style footbridge and, on your right, the somewhat ruined wooden structure of the Source du Héron. Continue behind this spring to exit the site through a passageway in the wire fence. Turn right onto the street. On your right, you will see a large house with green shutters and a magnificent door topped with an enamelled lava panel depicting a shepherdess in front of a panorama of the Puy de Dôme. You will then come out onto the D1.
(7) Cross carefully to take the path opposite, to the left of the Sainte-Marguerite sparkling water bottling plant. Further on, ignore the bluePR®® sign inviting you to turn right and continue straight ahead. The path, which runs alongside the ravine, climbs gently and steadily. Further on, ignore another path on the right. Higher up, at a fork, and with the houses of Saint-Maurice in sight, continue to the left. You will come to a street with yellow directional signs.
(8) Turn right, then at the next intersection, turn right again towards the fountain. Take the street on the left that leads to the school, then at the fork, go down to the right onto Chemin du Port. Turn left onto the path in the municipal park. Pass to the right of the wooden building, the Espace des Chanvres, the village's multi-purpose hall. On the road, go up to the left, then turn left again onto Rue de la Liberté.
(9) Immediately afterwards, take the path to the right of a beautiful stone cross carved with a Christ figure. Back on the road, turn left. Immediately afterwards, at the intersection, turn left to return to the car park (S/E).
