Description of the walk

In Mirefleurs, park in the car park on Rue des Chelles, between the cemetery and a playground.

Yellow markings throughout the route

(S/E) Head to the crossroads at the corner of the cemetery and turn left onto Rue du Guichet, climb the steps and you’ll arrive at the church forecourt. Walk past the entrance to the building and continue to the left. At the crossroads, follow the signs for Centre-bourg. You will arrive at Place Jean Domat. Continue straight on to the other end of the square.

(1) Continue straight on along Rue de la Conche. Turn right at the first street, even though it’s a no-entry road. At the junction, keep right onto Rue de la Thioule.

(2) At the next junction, continue straight on along Chemin de Busséol. Ignore a path on the left marked by a small yellow PR® sign.

(3) At the junction (not marked on IGN maps) with directional signs, continue straight on along the Route de Busséol. You will come to a road. Follow it to the right.

(4) Shortly afterwards, at the entrance to Busséol, where there is a tall cross on the left and a strange machine, turn right onto Chemin des Combes. At the junction, turn left onto the street. You will arrive at Place des Petits Clos, with two beautiful wash houses and a fountain.

(5) Continue straight ahead and, at the crossroads, follow the sign for Château. You will arrive at a small square with a pretty fountain and a geode. The direction to the château is signposted to the right. If you do not intend to visit it (open in summer only), stay on the street, Rue des Grangias, which curves to the left; leave the church on your right and continue along the road (which has little traffic).

(6) After a right-hand bend in the road, follow the path to the left (yellow PR® sign).

(7) Be careful further on not to miss the path that descends to the right to reach Saint-Georges-sur-Allier. Ignore Rue du Jardin which branches off to the left, go round the back of the church then turn left onto Rue de Montfoulhoux. Walk past the right-hand side of the church (a pretty carved porch, though badly damaged), continue right along Rue de l’Église, passing under a restored archway, then turn left into Rue de la Garenne. Then follow Rue des Tours to the right

(8) At the junction (with a beautiful wash house fountain), turn left onto Rue le Sentier. At the fork in the road, keep left and stay on Rue le Sentier.

(9) At the crossroads, by the Croix Saint-Verny, go straight on along Chemin du Pouyet. You will come to a junction at the entrance to La Roche Noire.

(10) Follow the signs for the Route de Busséol, on the left. At the junction, turn left onto Rue Achard de Lavort. At the town hall, take a short detour to the right to see a tiny wash house, then continue along Rue Saint-Symphorien to cross through the village.

(11) Further on, continue straight ahead along Rue des Cotes (signposted Route de Busséol).

(12) Cross a road as you reach Mirefleurs and continue straight ahead along Rue de la Roche Noire. Stay on this street until you reach the town hall, then, at the junction, turn left onto Rue du Pavé and return to the crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Head to the right, then – deviating from the outward route but off the marked trail – turn right onto Rue du Château (an interesting curtain wall and a tower). You will come out onto the church forecourt. Take Rue du Guichet, veering slightly to the left. You will arrive at the top of the steps you took on the way there. Go down and follow the street to return to the car park (S/E).
