The Gadagne plateau and a visit to the village of Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne

Parking is available at the top of the Plateau de Gadagne, at the junction of the Chemin des Mulets and the Route de Jonquerettes (D97). See Practical Information.

(S/E) From the car park, head towards the Chemin des Contrebandiers, which starts to the right of a property gate. Walk south-east; after about 500 m, you’ll reach a junction with the Chemin des Glaussières.

(1) Ignore the path to the right and continue along the Chemin des Contrebandiers for about 500 m until, after a slight bend to the left, you reach a Y-junction.

(2) Turn right, heading due south onto the Chemin des Pierres. Walk alongside the wall of the village hall until you reach the junction with the Chemin de la Fanfare. Continue to the left, keeping the vineyard on your right. The path leads to Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne and then reaches a ‘Stop’ sign in front of Avenue Voltaire Garcin.

(3) Turn left and use the pedestrian crossing towards the village. On the right, in the small pine grove before the car park, there is a drinking water tap.

(4) Continue along the bend to the right until you reach the next junction. Take the^first street on the left, Rue Giraud Amic, and enter the village. Then leave the street and head towards the Place de l’Église on the left. On the way, a terrace on the right offers a lovely view.

(5) Carry on along Rue de l’Église for about fifty metres towards the Hôtel de la Tour Carré. Note the start of a flight of steps on the right.

(6) Ignore the return route straight ahead and start a short circular loop through the centre of the village. Go down the narrow staircase. Cross Rue Saint-Marc and reach Rue Saint-Paul (fountain). Turn right, passing through the Porte des Bourgades.

(7) Go down the steps on the left and head for Place Pastière. Turn left and walk to the viewpoint at the end. Then head back up to the left via Grand Rue. This street, which is sometimes very narrow, joins Rue Saint-Paul at the foot of the Clock Tower.

(8) Continue a few metres to the right. After No. 21 on Grand Rue, turn left through the gateway leading to the end of Rue Saint-Marc. Climb the steps, turning left after a few steps to rejoin Rue de l’Église, then turn right to reach the start of the circular route.

(6) Follow the outbound route in the opposite direction until you reach the junction of Chemin des Pierres and Avenue Voltaire Garcia.

(3) Continue straight on along the avenue. Leave the built-up area and reach the Y-junction with the Chemin d’Avignon. Turn left towards Campbeau Cemetery along the shaded Chemin d’Avignon and, some 200 metres further on, arrive at the junction with the Chemin des Glaussières.

(9) Turn right onto this track; running between woodland and vineyards, it leads to a four-way junction.

(10) Turn 90° left onto the Chemin de la Chapelle. Ignore the paths on the left and the^first path on the right; walk straight on until you reach the^second path on the right.

(11) Turn right heading due north; after about 500 metres, you’ll come to a tarmac track, the Chemin des Saumanes. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the D97 road. Follow it to the right – this is the Côtes du Rhône Tourist Route, which takes you back to the car park (S/E).

(S/E) To reach the start, take the D97 from Morière-les-Avignon towards Jonquerettes. Park at the top of the road; the car park is on the left.

There are some lovely views, an orientation table, viewing points and balconies in the village, as well as the village’s pretty streets to explore.
