Getting to Oletta: Via the D38 road from the Col de Teghime; via the D82 then the D38 from the Col de San Stefano.
Parking is available at the municipal car park on the D38, Corsu José Luciani, below the Place de l’Église.
(S/E) Leave the car park via the steps leading from the Espace Maria Ghjentile to the Place de l’Église.
(1) Walk down to the fountain via Traversa Martha Angelici until you reach the D38 road. Head up via Strada di l’Aringu – D38, passing the Salicetu fountain. Walk past a large house on a bend. Cross the road carefully and take the path leading uphill. At the first junction, turn right to reach the hamlet of Montaghjò.
(2) At the highest point, leave the hamlet of Montaghjò via the car park. Follow Strada di Prete Pergola. At the telecoms masts, leave the road and take the track towards the Sant’Antonio Pass.
(3) At the end of the track, just before reaching the Sant’Antonio Pass, turn south. Then quickly head west, taking the path that climbs up a thalweg on Mount Zuccarello. Look for a clump of trees and a Fork in the road.
(4) At the fork in the road, follow the south-easterly path up the slope of Mount Zuccarello to reach the summit.
(5) Begin the descent along a path heading south-west, and you will soon reach a Fork in the road.
(6) At the fork in the road, continue along the path heading south until you reach a junction with a track near the Stretti Mountains.
(7) At the junction, follow the track to the left. Stay on the main track and turn right at the next junction to reach a crossroads at the lowest point.
(8) At the crossroads, turn left and take the path that descends south-west towards the Croix de San Giovanni. A little further on, you’ll reach the pass of the same name, where a cairn has been erected bearing signposts for the Ornithological Trail.
(9) From the cairn, head north-west along the path that descends through low scrub. Continue in the same direction through a very rocky section with a steep gradient. When the slope levels off, cross a patch of scrub to reach the lowest point on a barren plateau.
(10) On the plateau, continue westwards, following the markings painted in yellow. After a steep, rocky descent, vegetation returns to the edge of the path as you head towards Bocca di Pardino.
(11) At the pass, follow the signs for Tuda (iron signpost). During the descent, you can make a detour to the small Gualdoso dolmen and back. Then rejoin the route to the D82 road, Strada Pasquale Paoli.
(12) Cross Strada Pasquale Paoli with care and head back up the road. At the entrance to a field marked by signposts, follow the signs for Oletta. At the lowest point of the path, which is overgrown, you’ll reach the cemetery fence.
(13) At the fence, turn north towards the village. Follow the village path, which runs alongside the walls, to the Concia stream, which you must cross, before rejoining the D82, Strada Pasquale Paoli.
(14) Cross the Strada Pasquale Paoli with care, then continue along the Stradella di u Fornu. At the top of the flight of steps, continue along the Carrughju René Massigli to the lowest point. Then walk past the Sainte-Croix building to reach the chapel of the same name, which houses a museum of sacred art.
(15) From the chapel, carefully make your way down to the D38 – Corsu José Luccioni – and walk back up until you reach the Sant’Andria bridge. Leave the road and turn onto Carrughju Jean Franchi.
(16) Continue along Carrughju Jean Franchi until it ends. Then take one of the flights of steps leading up to the narrow streets. Whichever you choose, at the top you will reach the village road.
(17) Follow the village road, passing Dumenicu Marisi, to the church square, where the bell tower is visible.
(18) Cross the church square. After the war memorial, go down the steps of the Espace Maria Ghjentile to reach the car park.
(S/E) Car park in the centre of the village of Oletta.
