Description of the walk

The two walks complement each other: https://www.mygpsfiles.com/app/#FuwM5ra8

From Plan-de-Cuques, take the D908 towards Peypin. Turn right onto the D46A at the Auberge de Pichauris. Park in the car park for the park, indicated by a sign.

(S/E) Go through the large park entrance gate. Continue straight on the Sentier des Bergers, signposted by markers.
Leave the return path on your right.

Walk past the Fontaine Muriel and head towards the hamlet of Pichauris. Turn right to pass the Puits de Baptiste Long, then turn left. The path runs straight between the hamlet on the left and a vast field on the right.
After the field, at La Plâtrerie, veer left to continue along the Sentier des Bergers.

(1) Cut across to the right into a meadow that climbs to join a path which turns left then right in a sharp bend. You’ll arrive at the Puits de Jean Noël.

(2) A few metres before the well, head up to the left towards an old house. Note the Puits de Amé situated on the flat area to the right of the house.
Turn back to pass under the house and head up to the right to reach a green gate. Turn right.

After about 150 m, on the left, is the Puits de Téo. At a crossroads, turn left. A few metres further on, note a path on the right leading up to a green gate. Behind this gate is the Puits de Panturne. Visit it and turn back.

Resume the route, pass between a few houses and arrive at a tarmac road. Turn right towards fire hydrant no. 474.

(3) Turn right onto thefirst path marked Yellow / Red-Yellow. This path then turns left.

(4) At a crossroads, take the path opposite which winds downwards, still marked Yellow / Red-Yellow. This path runs alongside the road before joining it. Turn right onto the road.

(5) After about thirty metres, turn right, then immediately left, still following the Yellow / Red-Yellow markings. The path climbs steadily and moves away from the road.

(6) Turn left towards an old fire tank. Head straight along the track whilst admiring the magnificent view on the left.

You’ll reach a junction with a DFCI track. Turn right, still following the yellow/red-yellow markings.

(7) Turn left at the signpost indicating the Puits de l’Aroumi.
Caution! Do not head towards Mont du Marseillais.
Head off to the right and reach the summit of Mont du Marseillais via a short but steep climb. Take the opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved break.
Behind the facilities, take the track that goes straight down, with a view of the Garlaban on your left.

(8) Leave the track and turn left towards the Défens hill.

(9) Turn right to pass over the summit of Le Défens (elevation 648m).

(10) At the bottom of the descent, turn right, then left. You’ll reach a junction of DFCI tracks and fire tank no. 525.

(11) Turn immediately left onto a small path that descends steeply. Ignore the paths to the left and right. Admire the Grand Vallon on the left.

(12) Go straight on at the crossroads. Head towards the Puits de l'Aroumi; the markings are yellow, sometimes blue. The path climbs steeply and becomes difficult due to loose scree. The path then levels out to reach an open area: this is the Puits de l'Aroumi. Take the opportunity to have asecond break. Continue along the track heading north.

(13) Pass thefirst track on the left, then turn left at the signpost (wide DFCI track).
Follow this DFCI track down to the hamlet of Les Grands Chênes and fire tank no. 480. Then turn right and continue along the track.

(14) Turn left at thesecond junction and continue along the track. Ignore the paths to the left and right.

(15) Cut across to the right towards the track marked for mountain bikes. Atthe first junction, turn right to discover the Puits de l’Eouré. Turn back and head off to the right to reach a ford.

Turn right then left to reach the large park gate (S/E).

Stunning views between Sainte-Victoire, Sainte-Baume and the Mediterranean Sea. No difficulty, but allow a good four hours for the walk.
A real treat!
