(S/E) Leaving the station, walk along the northern end of Lake Joux.
(1) Take the small street on the left that runs alongside the bakery and, at the top of the street, continue along the path opposite which joins a road. Carry on heading northwards.
Stay on this road which runs alongside the Ruisseau des Époissats.
(2) Cross the stream at the ford and continue northwards.
(3) When you reach the signpost “Saigne Geret 943 m”, take the small path that winds upwards to the left towards Mont d’Orzeires. Follow the track as you climb; a cable will help you through a slightly tricky section.
(4) Once you reach the back of Juraparc, head down and then cross the corridor, keeping to the right.
(5) At the exit of the corridor, on the right, you should be able to reach the Crêt des Alouettes viewpoint. I turned back before reaching it. .... I’ll go back another time.
Alternatively, at the end of the corridor, turn left and cross the car park.
(6) Cross a road and take the path opposite that runs alongside chickens and llamas.... don’t worry, a fence protects us. Set off again for a good climb through the forest; the path is well marked and signposted.
(7) At the edge of the forest, continue left along the edge. You’ll find yourself in a meadow.
The path turns into a track and then a tarmac road, and we come to see Lake Brenet on our left. The road descends gently and leads to the L'Épine farm.
(8) Continue straight ahead and, at the T-junction, turn left.
(9) Cross the Route de Mouthe and walk alongside the cemetery, enjoying the peace and quiet of this quiet road.
This takes you into the village of Les Charbonnières.
(10) Walk along the southern end of Lac de Brenet.
(11) Cross the road and take a short path under the railway line, which will take you alongside Lac de Joux for about a hundred metres. You have now returned to the station (S/E).
