Le Longet or Tête du Rissace circular via Col Allongé and Col Albert

A beautiful ridge walk located on the border between Haute Ubaye and Queyras. Breathtaking views from the summit, with a glimpse of Mont Blanc.

Description of the walk

From Ceillac, take the D60. Pass the hamlets of Pied du Mélèzet and Cime du Mélézet, then after 800m, park in the car park on the right-hand side of the road.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the road for about 200 metres until you reach the Queyras cross.

(1) Leave the road and turn left onto the track. Follow it up to the hamlet of La Riaille, pass in front of the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine Chapel, then take the Col Albert path on the right. Follow the markings, staying on the right bank of the torrent.
Follow this path, climbing through the larch trees, to reach a vast plateau with a delightful meadow.

(2) At the cairn and yellow marker, leave the Col Albert trail and turn left to climb northeast into the mountain pasture.
On an intermittent path marked by cairns, climb up the valley, first on the right bank and then on the left bank of the stream. After cutting across a slope of schistose foliates, climb up the grassy terraces and then reach Col Allongé.

(3) Turn right and climb steadily up the Crête du Rissace through grassland and then schist. Reach the summit of Le Longet, marked by a cairn.

(4) Descend the path to the south and then south-west to Col Albert.

(5) Descend to the right into the Vallon de Souchier and then into the Vallon d'Albert.

(2) Follow the same route back to the starting point (S/E).

  4. 3 : km 4.55 - alt. 2,832 m - Col Allongé
  5. 4 : km 5.12 - alt. 2,948 m - Summit of the > - Tête de Rissace
  6. 5 : km 5.78 - alt. 2,843 m - Col Albert
  7. S/E : km 10.4 - alt. 1,878 m - Parking at the side of the D60

Notes

I recommend watching the video guide with the names of the peaks, which clearly shows the crossing points.

Outside the summer season, you can park on the left-hand side of the track under the larch trees.
(About 30 metres after the cross). There is space for two to three vehicles.

There are no technical difficulties or exposed sections, it's just walking. However, there is a steady climb in the mountain pasture towards Col Allongé, where the trail follows the blue dots of the IGN ski touring map. The trail is visible on IGN Satellite.

Very beautiful hike with an exceptional view at the summit. The climb to Col Allongé is quite strenuous. The GPS track is very useful.

Thank you, Gaelle, for your feedback. Feel free to try out the Visorando app on your smartphone.
(connected to an external battery for autonomy). You will no longer have any orientation issues, whatever the terrain.

A magnificent hike, even though I wasn't able to complete the circular. I couldn't find the cairn or yellow pole at point 2 to leave the Albert Pass trail. Early in the morning, perhaps because of the low shadows, I couldn't make out the path to climb up the valley. Walking alone, I decided to continue on the marked path towards Col Albert and go to the head of Rissace. No regrets, the hike was magnificent, and I didn't meet anyone until midday (even though it's high season). Thank you.

I did this magnificent and wild hike again this year (at least the climb) in good weather, so no particular problems. A few people at the pass who climbed directly.
To be done this winter on snowshoes directly from the Pass.

I had been eyeing this valley for some time, as it allows you to do this lovely circular just before the big afternoon storms. I was already familiar with Col Albert and the summit of Le Longet. The circular adds another dimension to this hike, without any real difficulty. It is important to do this loop in this direction, as the descent on the other side would be more difficult (steep).
You could also consider crossing between Col Albert and Col Clausis. This takes you to a different valley, so you'll need another vehicle or someone willing to give you a lift from the car park back to Ceillac. It's very interesting.

We really enjoyed this hike because of the variety of the route and the magnificent view from the summit of Le Longet.

Hello Boedts

I'm really glad you enjoyed the route and thank you for your comment.

I used the rating from the Visorando website (a general hiking website) rather than one specifically dedicated to mountains, so as not to disappoint hikers who are not used to mountain environments.

On the Altitude Rando website, where I am also an author, I have classified this same route as medium difficulty.

Hello and thank you very much for this very positive comment on this particularly enjoyable outing.
Your assessment of the difficulty level is, of course, subjective, and for you it deserves a rating of Medium.
However, for other less experienced and less trained hikers, it could be rated as Very Difficult.
To give all our friends a general idea of a hike, we make it a point to use this rating system. Admittedly, it is not perfect, but it does give an idea of the difficulty our friends will encounter on this outing.
Have a good evening.

An easy hike with a superb view from the summit.
It should be classified as "moderate" in terms of difficulty.

The trail is barely visible from the path to the elongated pass.
Numerous snowfields and scree slopes. Lots of schist. To reach the peak, you will need to use your hands and ensure that your handholds are stable. Magnificent 360° view from the summit.
