Park near the church and cemetery in Frévin-Capelle.
(S/E) Opposite the church, turn left onto Rue du Général de Gaulle, which winds its way between white stone houses. At the end of the street, turn left.
(1) Before reaching the bridge over the Scarpe, turn right onto Rue Alfred Devillers to follow the river. Further on, the narrow street becomes a dirt track. At the end of the track, turn left.
(2) You pass the very modest but picturesque church of Capelle-Fermont with its rustic bell tower and veer to the right. When you reach the bridge over the railway line and the Scarpe, turn right.
(3) Very soon, turn left to follow a peaceful country road, Rue Mélantoise, towards the village of Agnières. Shortly after entering the village, take the street on the right which climbs quite steeply up to the fortified church.
(4) Walk down Rue de l’Église to the end and turn left. After passing through the centre of the village, walk past the town hall and the local school on your right and cross the railway line.
(5) Immediately after, turn right onto Rue de la Gare. You arrive in Aubigny-en-Artois, a large market town, walking along the railway line on your right whilst the Scarpe flows on your left. Just past a cul-de-sac serving a few modern houses, turn left onto a small path that runs alongside a beautiful estate and its grounds on your right.
(6) Cross the Little Scarpe and continue straight on until you reach a road, Rue d’Agnières. Turn left at a brick townhouse and follow the road which runs alongside pastures. You’ll come to a T-junction.
(7) Turn right towards Capelle-Fermont via the D49. You’ll pass a large white stone farmhouse and, a little further on, you’ll look out over the beautiful Fermont manor house, which dates from the second half of the 16th century.
(8) We go round it and immediately afterwards take the small Rue du Haras opposite: we do not continue on the D49. We cross the small bridge we crossed on the way out.
(3) This time, when you reach the crossroads, take Rue d’Agnières, which climbs gently to the right through fields and woods. Cross a junction and continue along the quiet road, which keeps climbing, overlooking the countryside. You reach the next junction.
(9) We head back down towards Frévin-Capelle, turning right. At the junction, we carry on straight ahead.
(1) Pass Rue Alfred Devillers on your right (the road taken on the way out), cross the bridge over the Scarpe and, immediately afterwards, turn left onto Rue du Maréchal Leclerc. Stay on this road until the bridge, which takes you over the Scarpe once more, then continue straight on along Rue de la Mairie and then Rue de l'Église to return to the starting point (S/E).
