Le Grand Clos and Jamaysse

This walk on the Jameysse hillside, starting from the football stadium, is ideal for summer because much of the walk is in the shade of the woods on wide paths. The only technical points on the walk are crossing the main road, where there is heavy traffic, and passing in front of the sawmill, where there can be a lot of vehicle and lorry activity. The time indicated can be shortened depending on your pace.

Description of the walk

Start at the football stadium, where it is easy to park a van.

(S/E) Head towards the bridge over the Doux and take a small steep path on the right that leads to the D533.

(1) Cross it carefully, continue along the small road that runs alongside the sawmill and arrive at the Croix Malautière. On this small road, you may encounter lorries going to the sawmill as well as many cars.

(2) At the cross, climb left into the housing estates until you reach the entrance to the woods.

(3) Continue along the path through the woods that runs alongside the Bonefont stream until you reach a fork.

(4) Turn right and continue until you reach a road on the left, which you follow until you reach a telephone relay station.

(5) Pass close to the pylon between the telephone relays and continue along the stone path. Once you reach the woods, a lovely forest track awaits you for a gallop.

(6) At the end of the track, continue climbing through the woods. There is a pond below and you will arrive at Le Chazal.

(7) Turn left and you're off for a good long ride.

(8) At the big bend, continue downhill following the Longefaye road.

(9) At the large crossroads, keep left and continue towards Rosières.

(10) In Rosières, turn left above the beautiful stone houses and head into the woods. You will come to a road.

(11) Cross it, walk along the edge of the woods, then turn right to cross them.

(12) Back on the road, follow it to the left downhill towards Jameyse, a farmhouse inn.

(13) Turn left onto the path that passes above the farm and runs alongside the woods.

(14) Turn left to enter the woods and reach the fork after passing the Bonnefont stream on the way there.

(4) Turn right and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the football stadium car park (S/E).
