A small, hidden car park... Please note! The car park is not easy to find. On leaving Trécelin via the Plévenon road, turn right onto the D117 (Rue de Château Serein) and, 500m further on, don’t miss the path on the right leading to this car park (Place de Château Serein).
(S/E) At the far end of the car park, take a path leading down to the beach (Photo 1). As you go, take a moment to observe the various species of ferns lining this often damp path.
(1) Please note: contrary to the map, the junction with theGR®® is on the beach. A small sign on the left indicates where theGR®®34rejoins the route. This undulating balcony path will take you up to the top of the port of Saint-Géran (Photo 2).
(2) From the car park above the harbour, walk up the road for 30 metres and join theGR®®34on the right (Photo 3). Stay on theGR®® and ignore the paths branching off to the left or right. The path winds through groves of pine and ash trees,... (Photos 4 and 5). They are sparse enough for you to enjoy beautiful views of the bay. At a bend in the path, Fort La Latte will come into view (Photo 6).
(3) TheGR®® leads out in front of the hut selling tickets to the fort. Cross the path leading to the fort’s car park and continue along theGR®® right next to this hut. Stay on the path running along the cliff top above the shore. This section ofthe GR®®, very popular with visitors to the fort, offers a distant view of Cap Fréhel.
(4) About 700 m from the hut, leave theGR®® via a path on the left that climbs towards the fort’s car park. Walk for about 100 metres. As soon as the path opens out onto a field, leave it and take the farm track that climbs to the right towards the small hamlet of La Latte.
(5) Take the small road on the right which joins the Allée de la Ville Horieux at the junction with the D117. Cross the road and take the Allée de la Ville Horieux almost opposite, following the sign for the Chèvrerie du Cap.
(6) After passing the goat farm, turn left to stay on Allée de la Ville Horieux.
(7) At the crossroads, turn left onto a road. Pass through the hamlet of La Roche Lossoie (Photo 8) and then that of La Ville Tourain. Continue downhill to the port of Saint-Géran.
(2) Between the port of Saint-Géran and Château Serein beach, the foreshore is very often above water as it lies at an altitude of around 4 m above sea level. So if you arrive at the port of Saint-Géran between 2 hours before and 2 hours after low tide, it is likely that you will be able to reach Château Serein beach directly by crossing this foreshore (Photo 9).
It is very pleasant to walk barefoot on this sandbar as the sand is firm and clean (no mud).
But you must, of course, have checked the tide heights for the relevant time (see Practical Information) before setting off.
If the water level is too high, reach Château Serein beach via the coastal path taken during the first section of this walk.
(1) Once you reach Château Serein beach, you will easily find the path leading back up to the car park (S/E)
