Fourteenth stage of the Way of St James. This fairly short stage (due to the gloomy, snowy weather) feels like a long, continuous climb until reaching the hamlet of Raffy, in the forests of Meygal, at an altitude of over 1,290 m, which is the highest point of this route. A short stop in Saint-Jeures, a small village with a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church, situated a short distance from the Pic du Lizieux (1,388 m), clearly visible from a long way off before reaching the village.

A lovely alternative for climbing Mont Mézenc with this day-long walk. The route passes through ancient villages and stunning landscapes, including the famous Cirque des Boutières. Part of the route is through woodland and is very pleasant.
Do remember to arrange for a car to be waiting at the finish, at the Croix de Peccata.

Thefourth and final stage: whilst the Velay plateau offers gentle terrain and accessible slopes, the Ardèche side of the Mézenc is much more challenging. Erosion has washed away the volcanic scoria that once surrounded the ancient magma chimneys, leaving only hard-to-reach knolls, such as the most famous of these, Mont Gerbier de Jonc. Fortunately, however, there are also paths that allow you to reach the heights in a very pleasant way.
