After Rue de la Mairie in Aragon, cross the Ruisseau de la Valette and park in the car park below on the right just after the bridge.
Yellow markings throughout the route.
(S/E) Head south on the road that climbs to the right of the Moulin de Vignore. This road becomes a dirt track and leads to a large crossroads.
(1) Turn right towards Carcassonne. After 100 metres, just after a sign indicating a right turn, turn right, heading west, onto a grassy path that climbs slightly towards Font de l'Orme. Pass to the right of this large uninhabited building, continue along the dirt track that opens up in front of you and you will come to a fork.
(2) Take the track on the right (speed limit 20 km/h for cars and bicycles). Continue along this track, heading north-west and ignoring all the paths leading off to the right and left. DFCI water tanks are signposted a little further on as you approach the Plaine de Montolieu.
(3) At the four-way crossroads, turn right and pass in front of the beautiful house set back from Rude Mine. Find a track that runs alongside military grounds and continue to the right until the next crossroads (elevation 293).
(4) Turn right onto a path that winds gently through open countryside. At the three-way junction, keep right and head towards Malportel.
(5) At the end of the buildings in the hamlet, turn right onto a narrower path that descends towards Font de Clavel. Crossing the Ruisseau de la Valette stream can be tricky at this point in wet weather, so you may want to walk around it. Then follow the straight path to the T-junction.
(6) Turn left towards the high-voltage power line, pass underneath it, cross the Auzy del Plo stream and rejoin the tarmac road (D148). Turn right and follow this departmental road for a few hundred metres.
(7) In the left-hand bend, at the edge of the forest, take the small path to the right of the cross, which initially runs parallel to the road before turning right to cross it a little further down. Continue straight ahead on Chemin du Pesquié and enter Fraisse-Cabardès. Take a moment to admire the highly original wash house and drinking trough in the village of Fraisse. Walk up the main street and past the church (often open).
(8) At the statue of the Virgin Mary, turn right onto Rue des Graves, cross a bridge and continue along this small road, negotiating a few bends, until you reach a T-junction (elevation 339).
(9) Turn right, following the sign for "entre Puits et heath" (between wells and heath) onto a path that narrows and winds through the undergrowth. Ignore two turnings on the right and you will arrive at a three-way junction.
(10) Keep south-east by taking the path on the left. Walk along the Rec de Capservy. At the next crossroads (elevation 324), continue straight ahead. The path on the left takes you to the former Capservy Abbey, which has been converted into a lodge and still has some arcades. Continue to the next fork.
(11) Turn right, following the yellow markings, to reach another junction at Clapier d'Amen, about 200 metres away.
(12) Ignore the first path on the left, continue for a few metres and turn left at a 90° angle onto a narrow, barely visible path! This path leads towards the bottom of the valley. Follow the yellow markings to the south-east, ignoring all the paths and tracks that branch off to the right and left. Further on, keep your distance and continue south-east along the Ruisseau de la Combe Petite stream until you reach Les Drystone Shilts, where you will find a fairly wide forest track at La Fount de Cussou.
(13) Follow it for a few hundred metres to theD935A (Rue du Cimetière), which is the entrance to Aragon.
(14) Turn left, then quickly right to go up Rue du Barri. Enjoy the tranquillity of the village and stroll through the narrow streets. Pass in front of the town hall, cross the Ruisseau de la Valette bridge before returning to your parking spot (S/E).
