Description of the route

Park on Rue de La Clergerie, in front of the retirement home in Coëx.

(S/E) Walk up Rue de La Clergerie and take the path opposite (ignore the sign for La Lucilière on the right).
At the end of the path, rejoin the ‘Voie Verte’.

(1) Turn left onto it. Continue to the Vélo-Rail terminus. Cross the road and carry on alongside the Vélo-Rail. At the next junction with the Chemin de l’Éponge, turn right (tarmac road). Continue to l’Éponge.

(2) Turn left towards Sainte-Anne-Le Vivier. Pass La Couvée, go through Le Vivier and continue along the track, veering slightly to the left. The farm track runs alongside the Vélo-Rail again. Continue to the Grandes Bosses crossroads.

(3) Turn right. Pass Longchamp on your left and Chanteclair on your right, and follow the path straight ahead. Pass the sign for Coëx on your right and head towards Apremont (signposted). Pass through La Grande Dairy Farm.

(4) At the bottom of the descent, turn left towards Apremont. At the end of this road, at L’Oucheprête, cross to the opposite side and enter Impasse des Maisons. At the end of the lane, go through the gate and follow the steep path down to the Roman bridge.

(5) Walk back up the opposite side. Just after the barrier, turn right, then right again onto Rue du Moulin des Vignes. On leaving Apremont, ignore the sign for La Tuderrière-L’Aubretière on the right and continue left for a few tens of metres. Take the narrow path on the right. At the end of the path, turn left (tarmac road) towards Les Barbottières.

(6) At the entrance to Les Barbottières, turn right onto the dirt track. After about 500 metres, turn towards L’Aubretière.

(7) At L’Aubretière, turn left. Carry on straight ahead for about 1.5 km. At the end of the track, turn right, then left twice towards La Boucherie.

(8) Ride right through La Boucherie and turn left onto the path that climbs slightly. Continue straight on and take the second path on the right (the first path also leads back onto the route).
After about 500m, turn left onto the first track towards La Brosse.

(9) From there, turn right onto the tarmac road leading to La Callonière. 200 metres after La Callonière, turn onto the track on the right. At the end, turn left to rejoin the greenway. There, turn right onto the greenway (the former Coëx–Aizenay railway line). Continue to Buron Neuf.

(10) Turn right, then immediately left, following the signposts to Coëx to return to the original junction.

(1) Turn left to return to the car park at the retirement home on Rue de La Clergerie (S/E).

I completed this route on foot: 23 km in 5 hours 40 minutes (excluding a lunch break). I didn’t complete the circular route via La Borde and La Caillonière; I carried on along the path. A very pleasant route; I particularly enjoyed the section through Apremont. The path is very easy to walk on.

A really lovely mountain bike ride; I was a bit worried about the sections on the road, but they gave me a chance to recover so I could tackle the gently rising sections more effectively. The distance was decent – 24 km on the odometer.
