Parking is available at the Les Rousses Tourist Office on the RN5.
(S/E) From the Tourist Office, head towards Fort des Rousses. To do this, carefully cross the RN5 following the white/redGR® markings, then follow the road on the right to "Les Rousses Centre" at the square in front of the sports shop.
(1) Turn left and go up the small dirt road that leads to the ski jump. Continue to the right towards the Porte de France, admiring the Fort des Rousses site. At the crossroads, turn right towards the car park.
(2) Turn left and follow theGR® trail, leaving Rue des Entrepreneurs on your right and heading down towards leat de la Chaille. Continue to the crossroads with the road at a place called Le Sagy Haut (see Practical Information section).
(3) At Sagy-Haut, cross the tarmac road carefully and take the small stony path opposite, which descends towards the leat de la Chaille stream. Continue straight ahead, heading south, passing the Bonzon and Sous le Saut crossroads to reach the footbridge crossroads.
(4) Do not cross the footbridge, but take the path on the left that climbs back up towards the leat de la Chaille. At the Cascade signpost, you can take the yellow-marked path to the waterfall and back. Then rejoin theGR® and continue to the right to reach the leat de la Chaille.
(5) At the leat de la Chaille crossroads, head towards the tarmac road and turn right. Walk past the youth hostel. Continue for about 500 metres until you reach a small road.
(6) Go down the small road on the right that crosses the river. In the bend that follows, take the Chemin du Bagon on the left. The route climbs back up to Les Cressonnières via a dirt track that is often wet, then via a fairly steep tarmac road, and meets the RD29.
(7) At Les Cressonnières, turn left and walk carefully along the RD29 towards Les Piles. On the straight stretch, cross the road carefully to stay on the right side. Continue to the left-hand bend. Enter the housing estate by turning right onto Rue des Piles, which climbs towards Rue de la Frontière (D1005).
(8) Continue on the left to reach the Lacuzon roundabout. Keep right on Rue de la Frontière and follow the signs for La Cure. Pass the French customs post and continue on the right towards Les Rousses, following the yellow markings.
(9) At the crossroads, turn left and then take the first right onto Route Royale. Keep heading north, passing the two access roads to houses on your right, until you reach the Chez le Queton crossroads.
(10) Turn right towards Le Brioland via Chemin des Marguerites. Ignore the paths leading off to the right. Continue for a few dozen metres after the junction with Route du Brioland.
(11) Turn left towards Montée de l'Opticien. As you continue, look to your right for a mound that hides an old redoubt belonging to the former defensive system of Les Rousses. Take Montée de l'Opticien, a legendary passageway in the famous Transjurassienne cross-country ski race.
When you reach Rue Pasteur, turn left and you will find the Les Rousses Tourist Office (S/E).
