Description of the walk

Start: This route starts and ends at Haddon Grove Farm campsite (DE45 1JF) Grid ref. SK 176 659 so it’s a great one if you’re camping there with no driving required.

(S/E) Exit the campsite and turn right onto the road.

(1) Follow this for a short distance before turning right into Mill Farm.

(2) Pick up the footpath that bears left over a stile into trees. Head downhill to bend right and head down towards the river.

(3) Turn right to follow River Lathkill and after a short distance you will come to Tufa Dam waterfall.

Continue and you will see a small bridge, don’t cross it continue on until you can see Lathkill Head Cave on the other side.

(4) Continue crossing a stile where the limestone has been worn to a shiny marble-like finish. The path opens up.

(5) There is a gate to the left but take a faint path heading up right.

(6) After a steep incline turn left onto paths through fields to a signpost.

(7) Turn right up through the middle of the fields heading towards Haddon Grove to lead you back to the campsite. (S/E)

Notes

Worth a visit

In summer we were able to cross over to go inside Lathkill Head Cave but in winter the water comes out of the cave so be careful if it’s very wet.
