My criticism is the lack of evidence on the Spanish side!

It’s a lovely hike, and there are indeed some good restaurants on the Spanish side. Of course, you then have to climb back up to the Malrems Pass, and the path is steep. Watch out for the path that branches off to the right below the pass.
5½ to 6 hours for a good walker.

A lovely walk; a real highlight with the charming village of Beget and its bar-restaurant on the square!
Be careful on the way back up; it’s easy to keep going straight without noticing the path that bends and climbs... There’s no cross to indicate you’re on the wrong track.
Otherwise, it took just 6 hours for the round trip; at a good hiking pace, I’ll grant you. But also thanks to a long stroll through the streets of Beget and a tasty break at Can Jeroni :-))

I’m simply planning an alternative route for this autumn, starting from the Col de Malrem, heading north-west along the ridge to the Col de Vernadell, then descending to Rocabruna via the PR 187, with a stop for a bite to eat at the Auberge. The return route follows the Chemin des Meners (1 km to the left on the road to BEGET, then up towards MALREM via the small pass of BOCABARTELLA). See you later to discuss things after the recce.
