A circular route around the Eychassier Lakes and Lake Foréant via the Col de l’Eychassier

This walk offers an exceptional panorama from the Col de l’Eychassier over the three lakes: Eychassier, Foréant and Egogéou, and the Crête de la Taillante, which is absolutely sublime in its purity and simplicity. A magnificent high-mountain walk that starts at high altitude, immediately offering spectacular panoramic views of Mont Viso and the Pain de Sucre. Plus, you have the chance to set foot in Italy.

Description of the walk

Park in theCol Vieux car park, between the Refuge Agnel and the Col Agnel when approaching from Molines-en-Queyras.

(S/E) Take the path heading north to quickly reach a crossroads and the GR®58, Tour du Queyras.

(1) Cross it, continue straight ahead, and carry on climbing to the Col de L’Eychassier.

(2) Begin the descent and head for Lac de l’Eychassier.

(3) Turn right and, via a few tight hairpin bends, reach Lac Foréant.

(4) Turn right onto the path shared by the GR®58 and the GRP® de la Dent de Ratier; the markings are white and red. Stay on the GR® and, via a gentle climb, reach the Col Vieux.

(5) Descend between the posts marking the path back to the original junction.

(1) Turn left and head back in the opposite direction to your outward journey to return to the Col Vieux car park (S/E).

Notes

(S/E) Please note that the car park is not the one for the Refuge Agnel but the one for the Col Vieux, situated a few hundred metres further up.

Worth a visit

(2) Col de l’Eychassier: you can turn left towards the Belvédère viewpoint, following the ridge to enjoy a stunning view of the Pain de Sucre, the Crête de la Taillante, the lakes of Egourgeou and Foréant, and Mont Viso.
