Lac de la Remuaz loop

Magnificent hike, facing the Mont Blanc Massif all the way! While the whole route is quite busy, Lac de la Remuaz is off the trail and therefore isolated: a little forgotten gem.

Description of the walk

_ Start_: From the Col des Montets. There are three car parks.
Waymarkers: Much of this hike follows the GR® Tour du Mont-Blanc and the GRP®

(S/E) Cross the road, follow it in the direction of Chamonix (South-East) for about 300 m, and look out for the path through the forest on the right: this is the GR®Tour du Mont-Blanc.

(1) Follow the wide, well-maintained trail all the way, passing through winding sections, crossing sections and sections with ladders (it's fun), then arrive at the Carrefour de la Tête aux Vents (elevation 2133).

(2) Turn right, via the southern balcony (Les Deviets - La Remuaz - Le Col des Montets). Join the GRP® Tour du Pays du Mont-Blanc and follow it almost horizontally, over a sort of shoulder, for about 1.5 km.

(3) Pay close attention: before a slight rise, spot a very slight trace off to the left (small, unobtrusive cairn). Follow it (North-West then West) for a short while, and don't be fooled a little further on by a trace that goes straight right up the slope.

(4) At around 2170 m altitude, follow the track as it bends North-East, then North, along an almost level path. The track is not easy to follow: a few cairns in places. You soon come to a small pass just above the lake, well hidden in its solitary, unspoilt setting.

(5) Follow the same route back down to the main trail.

(3) Follow it to the left (North) and descend gently to the tarmac road. Cross the road back to the car park (S/E).

Superb tour with an impeccable route. Many thanks!
Lots of stops to photograph the ibex, which were sometimes less than 2 metres away from us. As a result, it took us longer than expected!

Hello,
Thank you for sharing.
Yes, the lake is quite confidential and that's what makes it interesting... so close to the crowds.
But if you follow the trail, normally everything goes well ... 😊
Bonne continuation sur Viso Rando

Very nice hike, thank you!
It was difficult to find Lac Remuaz, but we got there by deduction and a bit by chance because we didn't have a trail. We took a little path to the left of the scree (where there's a big cairn to the right of the main path), first a dirt path then across a scree where we were guided by a few cairns. The lake is tucked away at the bottom right just before the path becomes even more steep.
The isolation of the lake allows you to get away from the stream of hikers; there are plenty of ibex along the paths despite the crowds.

Good evening,
sorry for this disappointment.
Yes, Lac de la Remuaz is not easy to find, and at the same time it is so close to the Tour du Mont Blanc trail.
That's why you have to rely on the track... to avoid getting lost.
On my trail, there's no big rock that you can't miss... either you weren't on my trail, or the rock came afterwards... in which case maybe you just had to go round it...
In any case, this little lake is well worth the diversions, so close to the world... it's remarkably peaceful... 😊
Good news attempt...

A very pleasant walk despite the many hikers on the way.
We saw a few ibexes.
We searched for a long time for the path leading to Lac de la Remuaz.
In the end, we got halfway there, but we came up against a large, insurmountable rock that forced us to turn back.
If the author could give a few more explanations, we'd be delighted to go back there on our next holiday in Chamonix.

Yes,
Access to the lake is fairly confidential... but that's also what gives it its peace and quiet... so close to the GR.... 😊
