(S/E) The trail starts from the Deux Aiguilles car park in Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon.
Yellow markings
Cross the road and take the yellow trail marked "Oppidum". The steady climb of about 1 km will take you to the edge of the oppidum plateau. Leave the access on your left and join the brown trail.
Brown markings
Turn left and follow this trail until you reach a small oratory. Continue along the trail, which slopes to the right, and after 20 metres, look for a small green-marked trail on the right.
Green markings These markings are old and sometimes difficult to follow.
Turn right and take this path, which quickly climbs to the foot of the cliff, which you will follow for about 30 metres to the "Ecaille de Tortue" passage.
(1) This is the first tricky section, where you climb about 5 metres between the cliff and a rock that is 30 cm away from it: it is physically demanding and exposed.
If you get stuck at this point, I would advise against trying to go any further, as there are other ways to climb Sainte-Victoire.
Once at the top of the block, head left and then climb up a chimney. At the top of the chimney, turn left along the cliff face. The path then climbs up slabs to reach the bottom of a second climbing section.
(2) This second passage is on very smooth limestone, which makes it difficult to navigate.
Once you have passed it, climb up to the left to go around a steep slope (this part leaves the Green Trail, which climbs up the slope). Once you have gone around it, return to the right over the top of the slope. You will see a yellow marker cross when you return to the trail. Climb up vertically slightly to the left.
(3) You will soon have to climb a few steps, but this time it is not very difficult. The trail climbs up a scree slope and passes through some vegetation.
(4) Head right into a chimney that you will need to climb. Once at the top of the chimney, climb up to a large step. Once you have passed the step, immediately turn right and climb up to the ridge. From there, you will see a large scree slope crossed by a stabilised path. Descend from the ridge and climb up along the scree slope on the left.
Black and green markings
You will come to the black path, climb up the scree slope and then head left into the vegetation. There are no major difficulties and the markings are clearly visible. Leave the small Garagai chasm on your right (not very visible) and continue climbing up into the Garagai hole. The climb is not difficult but the rock is very smooth, which makes it particularly slippery, especially when wet.
GR® markings
Once you have climbed out of the hole, join theGR® ridge trail. Head left until you reach the Croix de Provence
(5). The return journey starts along the same path, back to the Garagai hole.
Black and green markings
Turn right and descend until the black trail crosses the scree.
Black markings
Turn left onto this path, which is not particularly difficult. The markings, although discreet, are clearly visible; they are mainly for the ascent, so don't hesitate to turn around to check if you are unsure.
Once you have crossed the scree, continue straight ahead on slabs, then up a small fault. The path continues fairly straight for about 500 metres. It then descends 30 metres towards the Deux Aiguilles, then continues until it reaches the top of a large slab. You must descend this slab on the right towards a large hole (the Pied de l'Éléphant).
At the foot of the slab, the trail continues straight ahead through the vegetation and descends until it crosses the Marron trail. Continue straight ahead to finish at the car park (S/E).
