Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Place du Champ de Foire (closed on the first Tuesday of the month).

(S/E) Leave the car park heading towards Pontarlier, turn right until you reach the roundabout at Rue de la Gare, then turn left onto Rue René Payot. When you reach the next roundabout, go round it on the right.

(1) Enter the grounds of Château Pertusier, home to the Morteau Watchmaking Museum, go round the back and exit onto Rue de la Glapiney. Follow this road up to Rue de la Chaussée and continue straight on along Rue Pierre et Alfred Frainier. Please note there is no pavement on the final section of this road.

(2) Turn left to head up Chemin du Trou Au Loup, turn right after the car park and take the middle path until you reach the steps on the left.

(3) Climb the steps (view of the town) then, in front of the reservoir, turn right onto the path leading up into the woods. Ignore the first path on the right and continue up to the next fork.

(4) Head left up the grassy path, reach the edge of the woods and veer slightly left towards the two cleared passages on the path. Atthe second one, turn left: from here there is a view of the surrounding hills.
Head down the farm track towards the houses and reach the crossroads.

(5) Turn right onto the small road that leads into the woods and, on emerging, walk straight through the housing estate until you reach the D48. Head left towards Morteau for about a hundred metres and then turn right

(6) Just after the picnic area, head left onto the forest track towards La Roche Jeannin and, at the gate, continue straight on along the signposted path.

(7) Leave the track and take the path leading down to the left. From here, some of the descents are steep and can be slippery in wet weather.
At the Roche Jeannin viewpoint, continue along the path down towards Morteau.

(8) Head down to the left, not towards the Pont de la Roche, and follow the path to the La Forêt de l’Aventure site. Cross the park from one end to the other and, once you’ve exited, keep following the path, then a trail, until you reach Rue Du Sauron. Carry on straight ahead towards the cemetery and turn immediately right onto Chemin de la Poulotte. Pass a fountain and head down Rue des Moulinots. Return to the town, passing Château Pertusier once more.

Return to the car park by following the route in reverse (S/E).

For a quick outing.
The ground is heavy at this time of year.

A walk through the woodland, with the trail very well maintained in the trickier sections.
This trail is very well signposted by the Tourist Office: ‘Welcome to Watchmaking Country’ leaflet, route 28.

At point 8, we didn’t understand “cross the Adventure Forest from one side to the other”. It must surely have meant: “walk alongside the Adventure Forest”. After that, we came across “a cemetery” and hurried down through the housing estate to reach the D 437, which isn’t very suitable for walking. So please disregard the first cemetery.

Hello,
Thank you for your comments; as I’m new to Visorando, I need to improve my skills.
I’m sorry you got stuck (on the simplest part).
I’ll make the change to point 5.
As for the distance to be covered on the D48, it is indeed over 100 metres (re-measured today on site using the app) and the picnic area is 150 metres from the road.

As a result, I won’t be using distances as reference points any more, as people’s estimates of them vary.

Enjoy your walks.

Hello,
The route was described perfectly at the start and end, but we did get a bit lost between points 5 and 6. To clarify: at point 5, you mustn’t turn right, buttake the path to the right of the road. Then, when you reach the D48, you shouldn’t go down the road for about a hundred metres, but just about twenty, and take the small road on the right towards Bois Robert. At this point, La Roche Jeannin isn’t signposted yet. The picnic area is 50 metres further on, on the right.

Best regards
Fidorra
