Park along the D447 road near the Auberge du vieux Châteleu.
(S/E) Head towards Les Gras and take the first path on the right, then left onto the track.
(1) At the three-way junction, continue straight ahead along the wide track. Further on, ignore a track on the right.
(2) When you reach the Loge du Mont Châteleu, pass a bench on your right and continue straight ahead into the woods. This path can be slippery in places when it rains.
The highest point leaves something to be desired; there is no way to see it before you reach it.
On a clear day, the view of the Alps is magnificent. An orientation table will guide you.
Then continue straight ahead on a stony path to the second viewpoint, which also has an orientation table with a view of Les Gras and Les Rochers du Cerf.
(3) Turn right, leaving the table behind you, onto a grassy path surrounded by raspberry bushes towards Morteau, then descend a stone path.
Do not take the first grassy path on the left, but continue until you see the signpost on a tree on the left.
(4) Turn left onto the small sloping path that leads into the forest to a wood storage and manoeuvring area for foresters.
(5) Turn left, cross this area and continue along a small white path to the edge of the woods, where the view of the Haut Doubs countryside is well worth the trip.
Continue along this path, passing a reservoir and then a statue of the Virgin Mary. Shortly afterwards, turn right and head downhill towards the hamlet of Nid du Fol.
(6) Turn left onto the tarmac road, cross the hamlet and join the D447. Follow it to the left for about 700m, towards the inn on theGR®5.
(7) Leave the road on the left by crossing the fence, which is often closed (white and red markings on a post), and take the pasture that leads you into the forest. At the exit, take the path that climbs steeply diagonally across the meadow to the stony path at the start.
(1) Turn right downhill and return to the car park (S/E).
