Roche d'Anse (Rock)

The rocky spur of Roche d'Anse is the highest point of Plain de Suzard (532m). Like a bow, a natural arch completes the southern entablature, reminiscent of the cliff at Étretat.

Description of the walk

Starting point at Pont de Pany.

(S/E) Follow the fully-marked pink trail to Roche d'Anse, which starts behind the Hôtel Pont de Pany.

(1) At the fork, turn right. Follow the pink path along the cliffs, offering superb views of the Ouche valley and canal. Beware, however, of a few tricky spots where you'll have to make your way between pebbles.

(2) At the crossroads overlooking Mont Aigu, turn left, then right a hundred or so metres further on, heading east.

(3) Turn right onto the path, heading due south.

(4) Turn left to reach the foot of Roche d'Anse, then left again on a very steep slope. Then turn right to reach the rock. Enjoy the magnificent view.

(5) Retrace your steps and go straight ahead on the white path which runs north along the edge of the plateau. Leave the left-hand path, which joins the one you took on the outward journey, and continue straight on until you reach a crossroads.

(6) Turn left to go back over Mont Aigu, which you skirt by walking above the path you took on the outward journey. Stay on the marked trail, ignoring all the paths on either side, and return to the original fork.

Return slowly to the village (S/E).

This is a very pleasant hike. It's quite uphill on the way out, and can be a bit tricky at times; on the way back it's a gentle slope, and it's good to follow the suggested route.

Lovely walk with picnic at Roche d'Anse, a classic. The route is easy to spot using the GPS track, so you can't go wrong. It's a shame that the box tree borer has now completely burnt out the box trees on part 1, which is marked in pink. You'll have to work up a sweat to get to the rock, but the view is splendid. At lunchtime, we may meet other hikers taking a break on the site of the rock, but there's plenty of room, so don't worry.

Sporty (that's not a strong word!) with some climbing up to the Roche d'Anse, after which it's an easy route to take on hot days. The viewpoints are really beautiful and well worth the effort... We continued on to Roche Madame and back to admire the scenery over Fleurey sur Ouche...

Walk on 30 May in fine weather. Very pleasant route, a little challenging on the way up but no real difficulties. A pleasure to do again!

A very pleasant walk, with no major difficulties. The climb up to the rock is steep but only a very short distance. But you're rewarded with a beautiful rock that's well worth the diversions... and the photo!

I recommend doing this tour in mid-season. The first part through the rocks and boxwoods on the south-facing slope in very hot weather is exhausting. The arch is beautiful and well worth the effort.

A very nice, fairly sporty walk. Be careful, it's slippery in winter! We had an excellent beer in the Pont de Pagny microbrewery on arrival (La Kanopée), I recommend it!

A very pleasant and varied walk. The final climb is a little steep, but the view from the belvedere has to be earned! Easy return along the white path.

A beautiful hike with a multitude of landscapes, some of them wonderfully gloomy, with tunnels in the middle of this immensity of boxwood destroyed by insects, giving a look worthy of a horror film... a real treat.
The first hour and a half was very physical (especially in 34 degree shade!) to reach the Roche d'Anse.
A very pleasant walk indeed.
