Little Briard Switzerland

Start from the car park at the community hall, Rue des Aunes.

(S/E) Continue north-east along Rue des Aunes. Ignore a path on the left leading to La Nebourg and continue east-north-east. Turn right onto the path, go uphill and reach a T-junction.

(1) Turn left. At the next junction, at a place called La Fée, go straight on along a small road.

(2) At the junction, veer left. Head downhill, cross the Petit Morin and follow the D6e (Rue du Petit Morin). Continue straight on until you reach Verdelot church and the cemetery.

(3) Turn left before the cemetery, head downhill then cross the D6, go over the bridge and head up the path opposite which climbs alongside a small stream. Keep to the right until you reach the house. Then head up to the left until you reach Rue Pascal Jardin.

(4) Cross over to the left to take a farm track, which you should leave once you reach the woodland on the left.

(5) Descend slightly, then turn right onto a path that crosses a stony stream: continue along this path through the Bois de la Fontaine aux Fièvres until you reach the road.

(6) Walk down the road to the left, then take the first path on the right below the Petit Egrefin building. Continue to the first junction.

(7) Turn left and carry on until you reach a tarmac road.

(8) Take the first path on the right, then turn left onto a farm track that passes through the hamlet known as ‘les Roulets’.

(9) Continue along the road which curves to the right, then right again onto Route des Fans. Climb up to Montflageol.

(10) At house number 9, turn left onto Chemin de Château-Renard. Ignore a track on the left, head due west and ignore a track on the right.

(11) At the next junction, turn left and head down towards the Château Renard farm. Continue along a small road until you reach the Sablons crossroads.

(12) Turn right (west) onto a track. Take the second track on the left down to Le Fourcheret.

(13) Carry on straight towards Bellot; take care when crossing the D31. Cross the Petit-Morin bridge. Turn right into Rue du Souvenir, then immediately left into Rue du Pont du Ru until you reach the church square.

(14) Cross the square and head up Avenue de Rebais, then turn left into Cour des Forêts, taking the path that leads up towards Rue de Bretagne.

(15) Turn left, cross Avenue de la Ferté-Gaucher and follow Rue de la Piscine opposite until you reach the bridge.

(16) Turn slightly left onto a stony path. Ignore a turn-off to the right, then turn left to reach a field.

(17) Continue along the path on the left, which is sometimes muddy in the undergrowth. Pass the Courteloire lodge. At a crossroads in the middle of the fields, turn sharply left.

(18) Head down the path leading to Villeneuve-sur-Bellot. At the road, first turn left then right to rejoin the path opposite.

Continue downhill to Rue de l’Orme Rond, then turn right into Rue des Aunes to reach the car park (S/E).

- To get to Villeneuve-sur-Bellot:
. take the train to La Ferté-sous-Jouarre station (Transilien Line P from Paris-Est),
. then take the Transdev bus – Marne et Morin – Réseaux du Pays Fertois, route 34 (Verdelot – La Ferté-sous-Jouarre)
- For the return journey:
. Transdev – Marne et Morin – Réseaux du Pays Fertois bus, route 34, to La Ferté-sous-Jouarre station,
. then train (Transilien Line P to Paris-Est).

- Parking is available in the car park at the multi-purpose hall in Villeneuve-sur-Bellot, Rue des Aunes.

During the hunting season (approximately 21 September to 28 February), the area must be shared with hunters.

The built heritage features beautiful traditional Briard “mezons” in the village of Villeneuve-sur-Bellot, small cottages in the rural hamlets, simple farmhouses and, further along the route, large square farmhouses that were fortified to protect against raiders.
