La Gachetière - White Cross

A walk in the hills with unobstructed views of the Pilat massif on one side and the Monts du Lyonnais on the other. The route follows good paths and small service roads. There are some steep sections, but they are short-lived.

Description of the walk

Park at La Gachetière.

(S/E) Take the stony path heading north-north-west. As you approach a wood, the path turns east-north-east.

(1) Cross the road and continue along the path which climbs through the meadows behind the small chalet. Turn right to reach Montgiraud.

(2) At Montgiraud, turn left and follow the path which veers to the right and passes behind a house.

(3) At the crossroads, take the road straight ahead and pass through the hamlet of Chantacros. Continue along a path, ignoring a path coming from the left and then one from the right.

(4) At the fork, take the path on your right that climbs towards the woods. Cross the woods heading north-east.

(5) At the hamlet of Red Cross, head due east along the path opposite, which will take you directly to the White Cross.

(6) At the White Cross, turn onto the path on the right which leads into the woods. At a fork, head slightly to the left.

(7) At the fork, take the path on your left which will take you back to the Red Cross.

(5) Take the same path as on the way out to return to the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk, enjoyed in clear weather – perfect for taking in the superb views! However, we would have needed a compass to follow the route description. With the map, though, it was no problem at all. Thank you!

Thanks, yasghou, but with Visorando you have to follow the route description and the map. We have no control over the signposting.

Hello,
The walk is lovely, but it would be better to specify which signposts to follow as there are several and it’s easy to get lost. Another thing: finding your way back isn’t straightforward as there’s nothing to help you orientate yourself for the return journey; there are several junctions where we got a bit lost and had to turn back.
