Worth a visit

Auxelles-Bas:
The name Acella (Auxelles) was first mentioned in 1130 and was later divided when Auxelles-Haut was created in 1569.

Mining history:
The southern Vosges mountains contain metal-bearing veins that were mined from the end of the 14th century onwards. Silver-bearing lead ore was mainly extracted and processed on site, with the forest providing the wood needed to support the galleries and energy for the smelters. Several large galleries and shafts were dug in the commune.

Industry:
After a period of decline that lasted until the Revolution, industry developed again in the 19th century with the establishment of a hand weaving mill. Created by Ferdinand Boigeol in 1824, the mill had up to 104 looms for manufacturing cotton fabrics. A source of income for the village and around a hundred workers, the business was hit by the textile crisis in the 1930s and gradually declined until it closed down.

At the beginning of the 20th century, "les Fabriques Noires" (the Black Factories) were created, buildings constructed from tar-painted planks, giving them a black appearance. All kinds of chains and related items were manufactured there. Dormant during the Second World War, they then gradually disappeared.

In 1926, electricity arrived in the village. At that time, each household had its own small farm. There were also many craftsmen: carpenters, wheelwrights, blacksmiths, tailors and clog makers. In addition,
oak wood and bark, which was highly sought after by tanners, were also exploited.

Easy hike with a few small climbs, but nothing too difficult. Be careful, though, as I did this in February when the ground was frozen. I think that in wet weather, some sections must be very muddy.
The route is well marked, so it's easy to follow.
Not very busy; we only passed two people coming in the opposite direction.
Otherwise, it's mostly woods with nothing special to see, so it's probably a very pleasant walk in warm weather, but for those who want to see points of interest (waterfalls, fountains, caves, etc.), there isn't much to see.
Enjoy your walk!

Everything has already been said by the other hikers:
The paths are indeed wide, almost always shaded by the trees, and perfectly marked.
We completed the walk in 2 hours and 40 minutes, walking at a normal pace, neither fast nor slow, without stopping.
There was some elevation gain, but it wasn't particularly difficult.
The trail seems to be little used. We only met two walkers coming in the opposite direction and a few mountain bikers.
It is not possible to stop at the edge of the "La Maman" pond as it is private property, but the place is peaceful and offers beautiful autumn colours at this time of year.
A beautiful hike to do again.

A beautiful walk, very well signposted, on fairly wide paths, easy to do with the family. Mostly in the forest, so interesting in hot weather, slight drawback in terms of panoramic views... Recommended walk and congratulations on the description and route.

A somewhat challenging but really enjoyable hike! Beautiful landscapes in the Vosges foothills, very well marked and the paths through the woods are very well maintained! The weather was perfect for enjoying nature's beautiful late winter colours.
