Description of the walk

The trail starts at the car park at La Combe (the municipal swimming pool), below the village church. There’s a sign there providing information. The trail is marked with small green ‘SGV’ squares (as shown on the sign at the start).

(S/E) Head towards the swimming pool. Climb the steps above the pool and catch a glimpse of the Château de la Lambertière through the trees. Then turn right towards the town hall in the village centre, then on to the Place de l’Église Saint-Georges. Walk round the church.

(1) Head back down into the village centre on the right and turn left after the PMU betting shop. Head up to the left towards Cabarot Castle and, at the top of the hill, you’ll find yourself between Saint-Geoire Castle and La Rochette Castle.

(2) Walk to the end of the street. Then turn right towards the village hospital, passing the studio of the artist Virginie Gauthier.

(3) Carry on, then turn left onto Chemin de l’Etergne, where another château of the same name awaits you (next to a large hill that resembles a castle mound).

(4) Join the Route de Saint-Sulpice des Rivoires and follow it uphill until you reach the “Consuoz” sign, where you’ll need to turn left. Carry on until you reach the Larembert electricity substation.

(5) Turn sharply left. From here on, it’s all downhill! You’ll arrive at Longpra (the only castle listed as a historic monument).

(6) After taking the obligatory photos, turn at the bottom of the lovely avenue towards the woodland. Watch out for the ford. Then it’s back to the village centre. You’ll come out onto the D28 road.

(7) Turn right and take the first two lefts. There’s one last stop to make: the old forge and the studio of the English painter Richard Cole.

(8) Head back down the street to the right and take the path you came along on the right to return to the starting point (S/E).
