Park in the clay car park next to Argelès-sur-Mer Town Hall, on Allée Ferdinand Buisson.
(S/E) With your back to Allée Ferdinand Buisson and the town hall on your left, head slightly to the right then left onto Cami Trencat, which you should follow to the end. Leave Rue Frédéric Trescases on your left. Follow the signs for the fitness trail and ride alongside the woodland. Cross Rue du Père Vidal and leave the housing estates behind.
Before the road turns into a dirt track, turn right at a 90° angle and join Chemin de Néguebous at a Stop sign.
(1) Turn left carefully onto this rough road, taking care to watch out for traffic. Continue to the large roundabout at the Lycée polyvalent Christian Bourquin.
(2) Carefully go round it on the right via a shared cycle/pedestrian path. Follow Rue de Nelson Mandela in parallel until you reach another roundabout. Continue to the right, still on the cycle path running parallel to Route de Taxo à la Mer. When you see Camping La Pearl on your left, take care – you’ll need to turn left. Look out for signs for ‘Arbre Blanc’.
(3) At this junction, turn left at a 90° angle onto Chemin del Pas de l’Arbre Blanc. Ford the Noguera and then, further on, ford the Ribereta; 20 metres later, you’ll reach a junction where the road meets the track.
(4) Turn right at a 90° angle onto the small road, keeping a good distance from the Ribereta (Riberette) on your right. Cross the Chemin del Pas de las Baques and continue alongside the Ribereta.
Join a cross-road and follow it to the left at a 90° angle. When you reach the main D81 road, turn left at a 90° angle and follow the signs for the EV8.
(5) Turn sharply right to cross the Tech via the cycle/pedestrian footbridge running parallel to the busy D81 road.
(6) Leave the EV8 at the bottom of the footbridge and turn right at a 90° angle. Ride alongside the River Tech (on your left) at a safe distance, then move away from it to reach a road junction.
(7) Cross the junction and continue straight on. Join Avenue du Tech at the entrance to Latour-Bas-Elne. Turn left onto this road and follow it for 250 metres.
(8) Turn left onto Chemin del Horts (Chemin des Jardins). At the end, turn right and carry on straight ahead. You’ll reach an X-shaped road junction – be careful! This is a dangerous spot.
(9) Cross carefully and first turn right then left to rejoin a cycle path running alongside Chemin Charlemagne. You’ll reach a road junction with a ‘Stop’ sign at the cycle path.
(10) Cross with care and continue straight on along Chemin de Charlemagne. Ignore the extremely unpleasant odours from the waste treatment plant…
When you reach the busy D612 road, turn left and follow the road for 300 metres.
(11) Turn right to go under it and, as you emerge from the road tunnel, turn right again, following the road. Continue along Chemin de Charlemagne until you reach an X-shaped junction.
(12) Cross the D11 carefully, heading west, and continue along Route de Saint-Cyprien. You’ll reach a roundabout near the Canal de l’Agulla de la Mar. Go round it on the right.
(13) “The left bank of the canal, currently under construction, has been earmarked for conversion into a concrete strip extending as far as the entrance to the Saint-Cyprien golf course, which blocks access to the Gulf of Saint-Cyprien...”
Turn right, following the right bank of the Agulla (January 2022). The path is not in very good condition. Continue in this direction with the Agulla on your left.
(14) Cross a small road and continue straight ahead, still keeping to the right-hand side (January 2022).
(15) Cross the D11 with care and carry on straight ahead, following the buildings on your left. Follow the channel on your left until you reach the other road. Caution: dangerous spot.
(16) Do not continue straight ahead. Path reserved for authorised users only... Private?
Carefully turn left onto the Route d’Alénya and go round the roundabout on the right.
Rejoin the concrete track on the left bank of the stream. Follow this track, keeping an eye on the signage, and cross one final crossroads.
From this point onwards, the path is shared by cyclists and pedestrians. Take care.
(17) Follow the signposts carefully and cross the Agouille, then continue to the left, back onto the right bank, towards Saint-Cyprien. This will take you to the end of the concrete section.
(18) Turn right at a 90° angle to follow the path alongside the golf course. Join the Chemin du Mas Salva and follow it to the right.
You must turn here, as the path that continues leads to the Étang de Canet but not to Saint-Cyprien...
Follow this shared cycle/pedestrian path to a small road and follow it to the right for 250 m.
(19) Turn left at a 90° angle to cross a wetland area via a long wooden walkway. Reach a road junction by turning left along a low concrete safety wall.
(20) Cross carefully and continue to the left, towards the beaches of Saint-Cyprien. Follow the shared cycle and footpath which leads to the seafront. Go round the roundabout on the left.
(21) Join the EV8 and turn right. Follow the seafront until you reach a roundabout at Boulevard François Desnoyer.
(22) Follow the EV8 to the right, showing consideration for other users. This will eventually take you to the banks of the Tech. Turn right and head for the footbridge over the Tech.
(6) Head up to the right to cross the River Tech via the footbridge, then head back down.
(5) Caution! Turn right under the main road and follow it, keeping to the EV8 which runs parallel to the Route du Littoral.
Take care as you approach the entrance to Argelès, near the first houses; the cycle path now runs on both sides of the road. You will need to cross this road.
(23) Cross carefully and turn right onto Avenue de la Retirada de 1939. Pass a roundabout and continue straight ahead along Rue des Trabucaires (smugglers’ street) until you reach a final roundabout.
(24) Turn right, between two small boulders blocking the way, onto Cami de la Mainada. At the end, after the school, turn left and head for the Argelès town hall car park (S/E).
