Start: Heversham Church Grid ref. SD 496 833
(S/E) With your back to the front of the churchyard main entrance, walk left and take the second road from your left towards the bus stop and Lancaster. Walk safely on the pavement as you walk past Dallam Boarding School on your left and reach the busy Princes Way (A6) road. Keep walking straight along the pavement towards Lancaster.
(1) Just past the "Parkhouse Farm" signpost and just before the '50 sign' find a wooden waypost where you turn left towards 'Kirkgate Lane'. After crossing the stile, keep walking South-East across toward the corner of the field.
Here, do not reach the gate but find a kissing gate into the edge on its left which looks like going into someone's garden. Cross the kissing gate and turn straight away right along the edge. Please do not enter the garden.
At the end, walk through the wooden gate to reach a lane where you turn left uphill.
Keep straight up across the bridge then on the right-hand side to the big house ahead of you find another kissing gate to reach the field. From here keep a diagonal to the top corner of the woods (South). Those trees were a catch feature to help your navigation. You have a tower ahead of you on the opposite hill.
(2) When you reach the fence of the garden house, look on your left and direct yourself where you see a lane curving right. Walk to reach that lane and bend. If your navigation is right you find a stile made of stones and a wooden signpost to reach the lane. Turn left to walk up along it.
(3) As you walk up find a kissing gate left with a yellow arrow. Walk uphill handrailing the wall right then at the Y-junction keep left along the farm track past the left side of the buildings. Here take the time to look backward and see the tower behind on the opposite hill.
Past the buildings, do not cross the gate on your right but keep handrailing the edge right to find a gap on the right side of the gate and reach another field. Keep handrailing the edge right and just past a ladder on your right and cross to the next field and turn right to handrail the edge right again.
(4) Keep handrailing the edge right as the path goes North-North-East. At the corner of the field, find a little wall and gate to cross and reach the next one. From here, the best is to walk just on the right side of the tree to reach a wooden gate and the lane.
(5) Turn shortly left, then right at the wooden gate with the wooden waypost towards " Heversham Head". Walk through the woods and straight to the football field. Turn right to go round the sport field so you can get to the far end kissing gate (North-East). After crossing the gate, walk straight ahead uphill (North) toward the trees.
(6) At the top of the hill when you see a gate on your right, close to the tree line, turn left and walk straight uphill across all the fields until you reach the trig point at Heversham Head and a beautiful view !!!
Carry straight on West past the trig point and walk downhill. Along the way have a rest on the bench and enjoy the view and another trig point.
When you are at the bench, walk straight downhill just past the left side of the trig. Walk under the powerlines to walk through a wooden gate ahead of you. Here you are entering farm livestock lands so please keep your dog on leads.
Keep straight downhill handrailing the fence and woods right to find another kissing gate entering the trees. Keep walking downhill and as you reach a junction keep straight to reach a lane. (Ignore the path coming from the left.)
(7) At the lane with the wooden signpost, turn left towards Heversham. Keep straight at the junction onto the farm track. When you reach "The old Grammar School", find a narrow gate on the right. Take a breath in to get through and walk downhill handrailing the fence right. Always keep straight to go through the graveyard to reach the church ahead of you and walk back to the start. (S/E)
