Description of the walk

Start:Along the main road of Sandside village (Park road B5282) (nearby postcode LA11 6RG) Grid ref. SD 473 804

(S/E) From the main road take the direction of Arnside. After a couple of meters, take the gate on the right side of the road with the path going on the beach (this path can be flooded during high tide). Continue on this path that will slowly leave the shore and will become bigger. Continue straight (South-West) until seeing a little car park in a wood on your left-hand side.

(1) At the car park, pass the gate, cross the main road (Sandside Road B5282) and take the footpath (opposite to the car park). Pass the gate to enter a field. Continue on this path until reaching an intersection of paths and a gate/stile.

(2) At the gate take left (East) and continue straight across fields until reaching a road and several houses. Cross the road to take the footpath that passes by a little gap in the dry stone wall. Continue straight up the field until another stile. Take left on the large path (with a campsite on your left hand side) and continue until reaching the end of the campsite and a gate.

(3) Pass the gate (with Hazelslack Tower in front) and take right on the main road to reach Hazelslack Tower farm. Go through the farm and take straight at the intersection of roads towards the footpath going through the fields and towards a forest. Continue straight in the forest until reaching the Fairy Steps (follow the yellow arrow and sign to the fairy steps).

(4) At the top of the fairy steps, take the path on the left and continue straight until reaching a large intersection of paths with a little cairn on your right hand side. At the little cairn take the path on the left. Follow again the yellow arrows always keeping on the right side path to find the path going to Beetham Fell. Continue on this forest path until reaching a road.

(5) At the road (Cockshot lane) take right and after a couple of meter take left on the footpath going through the wood. Then keep on the left path and continue straight on this path until reaching a dry stone wall. Cross it and continue straight until reaching a road (with the dry stone wall on your left-hand side).

(6) At the road take left, then directly right on Yans Lane. Continue straight until seeing an intersection of roads. Cross at the intersection and continue straight Green Lane road will bend before arriving on the main road (Park road B5282). Take right (North) to find the car. (S/E)
