Departure from the Haut-Jura Grandvaux Tourist Office.
(S/E) Go up Rue de Genève on your left, then turn right twice to take Rue du Coin d'Amont, behind the church, and follow it to the end. After leaving the village, take the footbridge over the N5 and continue on the same paved forest road to the hamlet of Vers les Moulins.
(1) Cross the bridge over the Lemme river and turn left.
(2) At the ruins of the Fontaine aux Chats, continue along the road and head towards Le Châtelet (a former holiday centre that is now a school).
(3) At the three-way junction after the school, turn left and after 300 m, take a small path on the right towards Chez Mayet.
(4) At the hamlet of Les Gros Louis (marked "Le Saut" on the IGN map), continue until you reach the N5.
(5) Turn left onto the forest road, temporarily overlooking the railway line, then cross the forest until you approach the Prélet forest hut.
(6) Turn sharply right onto the Route Forestière du Lignon.
(7) Cross the Dombief, take the first road on the left and head towards the hamlet of La Boissière.
(8) Cross the village and, before the hamlet of Les Rollets, continue right on the Route Forestière du Bois de Ban until you reach the Belvédère des Quatre Lacs car park.
(9) A path on the left leads to the Quatre Lacs viewpoint and the Pic de l'Aigle. Continue along the forest road. At the next crossroads, turn left and join the N5 at the hamlet of Le Cernois.
(10) Turn right, then left to cross the village of Entre-deux-Monts and reach Les Planches-en-Montagne.
(11) You can walk along the Langouette Gorges Discovery Trail. Just after the church, at the signpost for "Les Planches-en-Montagne", follow the Ruelle du Lavoir on the right, marked in white and red, towards Foncine-le-Bas. Continue along the tramway, a former railway line, with the Saine river on your right.
(12) Look out for the Cascade du Bief de la Ruine waterfall on your left and go through a curved tunnel ( bring a torch). Continue along the Saine river.
(13) At the end of the tram line, cross the bridge and continue to Foncine-le-Bas.
(14) Take the Route de Champagnole on the right for 150 metres, then cross it and turn left onto the D62 towards Fort-du-Plasne. Take the first paved road on the right.
(15) Follow this road, Chemin du Lac de la Dame, towards Les Fumey. Go around Lac à la Dame and then back up onto the D62.
(16) Continue along this road and reach the village of Fort-du-Plasme.
(17) Take the carriage road on the left just before the first houses in the village. Drive between Fort-du-Plasne Lake and its wetland area.
(18) At the hamlet of Les Voigneurs, turn right and follow the road to the hamlet of Le Maréchet.
(19) Turn right onto the D437, then take the first tarmac road on the left. Cross the small bridge and, at the "Le Maréchet" hiking signpost, follow the path on the right, marked in yellow, towards "La Gare". Go straight ahead at each fork and you will reach the D437.
(20) Turn left, pass the sign for the town of Lac-des-Rouges-Truites and walk along the old station building on your left.
(21) Just after the station, leave the D437 and take the secondary road on the left. Keep left until you reach Domaine du Bugnon. Here you can take a break, have a drink or recharge your batteries.
(22) Continue on the same forest road until you reach the four-way intersection marked by the "Les Quatre Chemins" hiking signpost.
(23) Keep right, follow the yellow markings and reach a housing estate via a forest road. Go a few metres past it and you will find the start of the old tram line, now a dirt track, on your left.
(24) Follow this and continue straight ahead at each fork.
(25) At the end of the tramway, a few metres before the D437, opposite the "La Halte des Martins" signpost, turn left and stay on the grassy path parallel to the road. Pass the old railway station on your right and join a small tarmac road opposite, which you follow for a few dozen metres.
(26) At the intersection, go straight ahead and then quickly turn right onto Chemin du Carlaton (limited to 3.5 tonnes). Continue to the hamlet of La Savine and the N5.
(27) Cross the N5 via the underpass on the right. Opposite the fountain, take the white path in the middle that starts between Route des Gyps and Chemin sous la Savine. The tramway leads to the Pésières district in Saint-Laurent en Grandvaux
(28) At the intersection with Rue des Pésières, turn right and continue to Rue de Genève.
(29) Turn left and go up Rue de Genève on the cycle path on the pavement until you reach the Tourist Office (S/E).
