Start: Parking is available nearby the Church in Gevrey. The start is on the western outskirts of the town.
Waymarkers: The Yellow Red (YR) lines to indicate the RDGC make for good navigation.
(S) Start at Church car park and go past the Church along Rue de L'Eglise left up Rue du Chateau and after 100 m turn left following Yellow and Red (YR) sign and go past the Chateau. Soon come to a 3-way junction and turn left up Rue de l'Argillière between vineyards and after about 0.5 Km the RDGC turns sharply left.
(1) Go steeply up for a further 0.5 Km into the woods until you reach a junction.
(2) Turn right (North) off the track onto a flatter section of just under 1 Km till you reach a junction.
(3) Turn sharply right down the Combe till you reach another junction.
(4) Turn right to follow route through the woods until you meet once more the road at a three-way junction.
The walk through the woods and combs has been at times on a stony path and felt enclosed, but now you have reached a good track in fresh air.
(5) Follow the road ahead down using the usual YR signs to the large car park and pleasant benches under the delightful pine trees at Parc Noisot where you could stop for a lunch or a drink (or even if you have time explore another route which starts here though the Museum and Combe de Fixin).
Proceed down hill to pass Clos Perrière and Clos Napoléon gates on the right down to the Caves and the Restaurant de Napoléon.
(6) Turn left following the usual YR signs and turn quickly right towards Fixey with a spire in distance and after about half a Km reach the village of Fixey. The RDGC is right but after briefly turning left off-route and visiting the charming 1000 year old church of St Antoine, come back down and follow the YR sign left for Couchey and after 0.5 Km reach a T-junction.
(7) Turn right here and after another 0.5 Km reach a triangle with benches and a view up into the vineyards and forests and down to the plain of main roads. Take the straight on route to Couchey towards the conical tower and after another 0.5 Km you become level with the tower on your right at Couchey.
There are several routes through or around the village; one is to proceed past the tower and turn right down the Ruelle Mirabeau and enter the central Place Charles de Gaulle with the Mairie, wolf statue and a shop and benches for a stop; and then rejoin the route through Rue Rameau.
Or here we take another route to proceed just beyond Ruelle Mirabeau.
(8) Soon turn right into Rue Pasteur to emerge at the top of Rue Rameau and after a path at the Rue de L'Europe you reach the northern end of Couchy at Chemin du Pillot.
(9) Follow the route North past the cemetery for a Km on a track which becomes the Rue des Vignes all the way to Marsannay-La-Côte.
(10) Here either visit Marsannay, home of the rare but best Rosé in the region, or simply proceed straight on the route on the Western side of the village past the Chateau towards the next waypoint, still on the Rue des Vignes.
(11) Here at the north end of the village cross the main road the D108 at a Cross, aided by a YR sign, and proceed on Chemin des Ouzeloy, onwards to the triangular junction.
(12) Just past the triangle turn right on the final stretch towards Chenove/Dijon, walking 2 Km North-Easterly along Rue Longeroies , becoming Chemin Clos du Roy, to our end point at Rue Roger Salengro. (E)
''On the way passing the famous Clos du Roy (Roi) vineyard famous because at one point in history it was thought to produce wines superior to the Côtes-de-Nuits. In fact this wine marks the transition out of the Côte d’Or and is essentially the last main vineyard before Dijon; this is one of several reasons why our own RDGC walk series ends when you reach Chenove on the outskirts of Dijon.
Our route ends at Chenove on Dijon outskirts where return bus routes to Gevrey are fairly easily possible. As you complete the northward walk along Chemin Clos du Roy at Rue Roger Salengro you will reach the historic wine presses of the Dukes of Burgundy, a medieval building on Rue Roger Salengro - a truly appropriate place to finish an epic journey!
Even though some RDGC tours contain one last YR marked walk through the woods, (starting at a YR mark on our end point in Rue Roger Salengro and ending nearer the suburban Dijon centre) we preferred to keep it a countryside walk and finish on the edge of Dijon at Chenove. But for those who have the determination for the final push, see below for a brief description in the "see around" section.''
