Gave d'Ossoue (cours d'eau) - Affluent du Gave de Gavarnie walks
Lac de la Bernatoire
Pure beauty! A hike that will take your breath away, surrounded by cows, marmots and chamois!
Pic de la Bernatoire
A hike that allows you to discover a magnificent deep-blue lake nestled in its crater and to reach a peak offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the high summits. You’ll see plenty of marmots and perhaps a few chamois and griffon vultures.
Grand Pic de Tapou and Pic du Milieu
Two 3,000-metre peaks often overlooked by hikers, who tend to prefer the nearby Vignemale, even though the panoramic views from the summit are well worth the detour. With summer pastures, lakes and a final stretch along the ridge, these two peaks have everything to offer.
Le Petit Vignemale via the Ossoue Dam
Overlooking its imposing neighbours (the Vignemale and Pique Longue), the Petit Vignemale offers a beautiful panorama of the Vignemale massif and its glacier, as well as the 3,000-metre peaks of the Cirque de Gavarnie.
A high-mountain hike, suitable only for experienced walkers.
From Gourette to Saint-Lary-Soulan
An 8-stage hiking tour, undertaken by two of us from 17 to 25 July 2019, between Gourette and Saint-Lary-Soulan. The route follows theGR®10trail for the most part, although we added a detour through the Marcadau Valley as well as a rest day in Gavarnie.
Oulettes de Gaube Mountain Hut – Gavarnie
The fifth stage of the trek, which links the Oulettes de Gaube mountain hut to Gavarnie, began with the ascent of the Petit Vignemale (3,032 m) early in the day.
Lac de Gaube - Cabane des Tousaus
Second stage of the four-day adventure from Cauterets to Luz-Saint-Sauveur via Petit Vignemale and Gavarnie. It can be done in one day, but I think it would be more enjoyable to split it into two days to take the time to appreciate the magnificent scenery!
Gavarnie – Luz-St-Sauveur
The sixth stage of the trek (or seventh if you’ve taken a ‘rest’ day to explore the Cirque de Gavarnie). This transitional stage descends the entire Gavarnie valley to Luz-Saint-Sauveur, the final town on the route. Please note that the suggested route differs slightly fromthe GR®®10, as it passes through Gèdre.
