On the road from Ramberchamp towards Ménaurupt-Vagney, at the Col de Sapois, there is a car park behind a wooden hut: several spaces available.
(S/E) From the car park, cross the road with care and take the Chemin du Cul de la Hotte opposite, towards the old Phény school: Red Disc markings. Turn left at the first three-way junction and follow the path for about a hundred metres, keeping to the Red Disc markings.
(1) At the cross, continue straight on along the path marked with a Red Disc, go for about 200 m then turn right onto an unmarked path. Continue straight on, passing two paths on the right further on that go uphill and another that goes downhill. The path widens. At the T-junction, turn right to reach a road.
(2) Follow this road to the right, keeping to the same markings, and continue to the bend marked on the left.
(3) Leave the road and follow the Red Disc markings to the right to reach the Haut des Courts junction (alt. 926 m).
(4) Turn right onto the small path marked with a Yellow Disc. Turn right again at the next junction and follow this path marked with a Yellow Disc, which joins the ridge at the 976m mark.
(5) Continue to the right, following the markings, pass a memorial stone and arrive at a clearing. Walk past a cross for a few dozen metres to reach a junction.
(6) Turn left, following the markings, and at the junction keep left to join the Noir Rupt forest track near a shelter.
(7) Follow it to the left; it is signposted with a Green Disc and Red Triangle. About 350 m further on, a path branches off to the right.
(8) Take this path (unmarked), leaving the road leading to the Croix des Oiseaux on your left.
Return to the Red Triangle markings. Walk along the Pré Chaussotte on the Chemin de Frémont, passing the lodge and leaving the paths on the right until you reach a junction.
(9) Ignore the path on the left and continue along the road slightly to the right, which leads towards the Mérelle waterfall. Arrive at the hamlet of Frémont and then at the Étang picnic area.
(10) To the left, heading north, a technical path (stones and roots), marked with a Blue Disc, descends towards the Mérelle waterfall; take care if you use it. Otherwise, continue to follow the Mérelle circular path, passing close to a bog and a small pond. Pass a stone cross, ignore a path branching off to the left and continue for a few dozen metres.
(11) Turn right, heading south, following the Green Ring markings downhill. You’ll come out onto a road.
(12) Cross over to take the Chemin du Badon (Green Ring) opposite, which heads due south towards the Col de Sapois. On reaching La Blanche Hutte, the path joins another marked with a Red Disc coming from the left.
(13) Continue straight on along the Green Ring and Red Disc path towards Haut du Tôt. Join a road, continue straight on, then turn left at the junction and return to the Col de Sapois (S/E).
