Description of the walk

The walk starts at the car park at the “Tapis Vert” entrance to the Courneuve Departmental Park, on Avenue Waldeck Rochet in La Courneuve (Seine-Saint-Denis).

(S/E) Exit the car park via the north-west exit. Go through the barrier and continue to the tarmac path near a refreshment kiosk and toilets.

PR® markings (yellow)

(1) Turn left onto this path and continue to the next junction, where you turn right. After about 50 metres, turn right onto the path curving to the right leading to the open-air theatre.

(2) Turn left, then after a few metres turn left again. Cross the junction of six paths and further on another path, then follow the path to the right running alongside the riding school.

(3) Turn right onto the path leading towards the Pyrus entrance. At the junction, in front of a playground, turn right onto Allée des Érables (signposted on a plaque on the ground in the centre of the path).

No signposting

Walk to the circular lawn, then, after turning left, take the first path on the left. It curves to the left. At the fork, continue straight ahead until you reach the concrete path, which you should take.

(4) It winds upwards to the right through the Vallée des Fleurs, then descends to a junction where you take the second path on the right leading towards the Roseraie.

(5) When you reach the entrance to the Rose Garden, climb the steps on your left to reach the viewpoint at the top, then head back down the path to continue the route.
Continue left towards the Grand Lac and follow its left bank.

(6) Cross the wooden jetties on the right and continue along the left bank of the Grand Lac until you reach the end at the crossroads.

PR® markings (Yellow)

(7) Take the track on the left leading to the Cascades, which curves to the right and climbs up to the entrance of the Iris Bridge. Cross the bridge, then walk along the left side of the upper lakes and, at the next junction, turn left towards Brussels, crossing the footbridge in front of you.
Follow the signs for Bruxelles, then at the second junction, turn right towards the Cerisaie playgrounds. When you reach the bottom of the hill dotted with large boulders, keep left and at the next junction continue straight on to the Belvédère du Cèdre penché, which overlooks Stains.

(8) Resume the route and, at the next junction, ignore thePR® sign and turn left.

No signposting

Walk straight ahead for about fifty metres to reach and then take the first track on the left.
This track curves to the right until it reaches a junction of paths forming a triangle. Turn left and, at the second point of the triangle, veer left again as you climb. The track curves to the right, overlooking the Grande prairie, turns left and curves to the right again, crosses a signposted path and, after a flat section, descends to the right, winding through the hollow of a small valley to a complex junction where several paths, tracks and trails meet at the entrance to the Cascades (sign).

(9) You will be doing two short routes from this point.

First route:

Turn left and, a few metres further on, take the narrow concrete path on the right, bordered by two wire fences, which climbs up the hill. It winds its way up and down to a junction where you take the track on the right that runs alongside the lake.
At the T-junction, turn right, then right again at the next fork, and you will return to the checkpoint at the entrance to the waterfalls (sign).

End of the first route.

Second route:

Head towards the waterfalls. At the lake, climb the steps to reach the top.
Climb up the conical hill, then descend via the steps on the right and head across to the small plateau using the few steps in front of you. At the end of the plateau, you’ll rejoin the path you followed earlier. Turn right and, at the junction, turn right again onto the signposted path.

PR® markings (yellow)

Continue on; you will descend to the junction of the two routes.
End of the second route.

(9) Continue straight ahead and, about a hundred metres further on at the fork, take the middle path.

No markings

Carry on until you are about 50 metres from the Iris Bridge and turn left.

(10) At the lake, you will rejoin the signposted path.

PR® markings (yellow)

Turn right. The path descends to the Etang des Brouillards. Turn right to follow the bank. At the next fork, take the path on the right which continues along the bank, climbing up to the Iris Bridge. Cross the bridge.

No markings

Follow the path along the edge of the embankment to the left.

PR® markings (Yellow)

(11) At the fork, continue straight ahead along the paved path leading to the Belvédère.

(12). After taking in the view, carry on. The path descends to the Grand Lac in front of the Maison du Parc.
No signposting

The route is a bit confusing, even when using your phone... Otherwise, this park is absolutely delightful.

A real find. A wonderful park. An early morning stroll in the company of a whole host of rabbits. The route is very easy and allows you to explore every nook and cranny of the park. I know I’ve said it before, but it really is one of the most beautiful parks in the Paris region.

the description wasn’t always accurate; some markings on the ground weren’t visible, but otherwise the route was interesting away from the busy areas,

A beautiful park. A varied route with its lakes and hills offering lovely views of the park. My only regret was that the waterfalls weren’t working.
The friends who were with me were delighted to discover this green oasis so close to Paris.
