Erlo-Xoxote from Azpeitia

A beautiful hike with magnificent views from Erlo and Xoxote. The first part is steep, climbing up to Erlo on a rocky path. You can picnic at the Xoxote refuge, which serves drinks, sandwiches and coffee (open from April to mid-October except Mondays).

The first part of the climb up to the pass follows a tarmac road at first, then a track with views over the industrial valley – so it’s rather uninteresting for over an hour. You then pass through a lovely wooded section of larch and beech trees, which makes it more interesting again. From the pass to the summit, there are beautiful panoramic views of limestone cliffs.
