Description of the walk

Park in the Croix de Boutières car park.

(S/E) Head north on the left-hand path (parallel to the snack bar). Begin a gentle, steady climb through well-maintained undergrowth leading to an intersection. Further up, at the edge of the woods, you will reach a crossroads.

(1) Important note: work is currently being carried out on the trail (when I completed the route on 14 July 2023). Therefore, follow the signs carefully and do not venture onto closed trails.
Follow the well-marked trail leading to the north face of Mont Mézenc, the highest point in the Haute Loire. Enjoy the wonderful 360° panorama.

(2) Descend south-east towards the south face of Mézenc. At the crossroads, turn right and you will soon reach the orientation table at the top of the south face, which is the highest point in the Ardèche. Here too, enjoy the wonderful 360° panorama.

(3) Continue left to reach asecond orientation table located near the paragliding launch area.

(3) Head north-west to return to Mont Mézenc Nord.

(2) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction until you return to the initial crossroads.

(1) Turn right into the woods and continue downhill to reach the Croix de Peccata crossroads. Here you will find theGR®7and 420 and theGRP® du Tour du Massif du Mézenc Gerbier de Jonc.

(4) Turn left, then keep left at the next crossroads and follow theGR®GRP® along the edge of the woods. Before the D631, turn left again to quickly reach the Croix de Boutières car park (S/E).

It's very easy, but remember that you shouldn't go to Mezenc in trainers when there's snow. It may seem silly to repeat this, but this very easy route is frequented by families with children and elderly people without any equipment... You often see people stuck in snowdrifts up to their waists. I've seen people come out barefoot with their trainers buried under 80 cm of snow...
That wasn't the case on this particular day because there was very little snow. The view was magnificent as always, but the wind was fierce!

The perfect hike to digest after a meal on the plateau. Regarding the route, the description of the circuit and the appeal of this hike (fabulous panoramic views), well done to the creator and the Visorando app.
An added bonus in hot weather is the 8-10°C drop in temperature compared to the Rhône valley.

Fairly easy hike despite the elevation gain
Very beautiful view and, what's more, you can climb the highest peaks in Ardèche and Haute-Loire at the same time

A very pleasant hike with beautiful views 😍
A tough climb at the end between points 8 and 9... but a great reward when you reach the summit! An ideal picnic spot to watch the paragliders!
